OS X Lion won't reconize DNS-323 until other PC access it
« on: September 23, 2011, 02:29:24 PM »

I have a small network consists of 2 mac's and 2 PC's.  All the Mac's run on Lions and PC's Win 7 Pro x64.  Right now, my PC's have no problem and they recognize both of the drives as
e: --> \\10.121.1.3\volume_2 and f: --> \\10.121.1.3\volume_3.  The problem is my Mac's.  I can't see them in my finder unless one of the PC's first had logged onto the 323 neither one of the Mac's will see the share.  When the Mac's were running OS X 10.6 (Leopard); it didn't have that problem.  There had not been any change of network topography, cables, routers etc.  Can anybody tell me a solution?  Right now, I have to power on my PC's, logon the network shared drive and then the Mac's can see it.  Is there any other solution?

Apple changed something in its latest version that has stopped access to the DNS-323.

Do a search of the forum as I think there is a work-round available.

Oh dear, I'm not exactly a newbie but I'm no expert in *nix.  I rather re-compile the firmware of the 323 and make it un-usable on ANY of the machines on the network.  It is just a pain right now I have to activate the share on my PC's before my Mac's can see it.  From what I see on the link, I don't really understand why they implement this change.  Oh well, hope Dlink will fix this soon.

If D-Link has a priority list of needed upgrades, I would bet that this issue is very near the bottom.

After the OS X machines find the DNS-323 shares, do they continue see them until the NAS unit is restarted?  If so,  do not power-down the unit(s) and remember you have to go through the extra step of connecting to the machine with a Windows machine after restarting the DNS-323.  If you have the problem after starting a 10.7 system, can you leave the Macs running?

I am sorry you had to be the one to find the problem and thank you for reporting it to the list.

I have discovered the same problem since purchasing my first Macbook pro with Lion, what I do to overcome switching on PC is to navigate to GO/connect to server type in ip address or server name, once initially done you can add it to the list for a quicker connect next time round.
