How to print through the DNS-320?
« on: October 02, 2011, 10:31:18 AM »

Hey,

Been trying to print through the NAS but i cant find it available on the network and cant figure out how to set it up. If i check under devices in the DNS it finds the printer and it seems alright.

So how do i go from there?

Thanks for any help :)

I presume you are using Windows. Did you navigate (in Windows) to Add Printer -> Add network printer?

I havent tried on my windows computer yet, but tried on my mac 10.6 equivalent. Through that one i couldnt find the printer. So regardless if its working on my windows computer or not, it needs to work with my mac.

Moreover, i did install the printer on both machines and the printer is working fine if i connect straight to either machine.

You may want to try setting up the printer on Windows just to validate that it's working through the NAS. I'm not familiar enough with the Mac OS to troubleshoot networked printer settings. Someone else will have to chime into the conversation to work with you on the Mac side..

So after much trial and error, i've gotten my mac to print but not my windows pc.

I can find the printer on the network, I tell it to use the right driver, but when I press print, nothing happens.

Any idea?

Which firmware are you using?
FW 2.00b06 has the issue, that no printing is possible if custom shares are created (except Volume_1).

Try using the beta code. It solved the problem for me.

Then just install a local printer with the port name: \\ip-of-your-dns-320\lp
This works for me.
