Intel wireless cards crash Windows when DIR-655 is on.
« on: August 29, 2007, 03:27:14 PM »

If you have a built-in Intel wireless card (Intel Chipset), please update your Intel Drivers if you are experiencing BSOD when you try to connect to a DIR-655.

Check your notebook manufacturer or Intel site for updates. Some report driver version 9.X working and a version 11.X is currently available at Intel site.

My hp orgionally came with the old drivers for Intel...upgraded to the new set on the hp site before I got my DIR 655 and haven't had any problems with crashing....just not being able to connect in N mode.

My driver version is 11.1.1.11   --   Wireless card is an Intel WiFi Link 4965

I have a Dell Inspiron 1420 with an Intel agn card. I called d-link tech support and was told that my dlink dir 655 will not connect with the Intel card at n speeds. The technician tried
to connect me at n speeds with no success. I am going to contact Intel and Dell and find out if there is a workaround. If anyone has any ideas please let me know. I am currently at g speed.

Me and you are in the same boat then.  :o  I even went to Driver Agent and downloaded the latest Intel Driver from the dell site...rev. 11.1.1.16 dated 6/20/2007.

I don't understand it...sometimes I can peg the meter all the way back at www.speakeasy.com too, but the router still shows connected at 11g not 11n.

What encryption are you using?

Security Mode = WPA Personal

WPA Mode = Auto (WPA or WPA2)
                            TKIP and AES
                       3600 interval

Why...would the encryption affect the 'N' mode?

thanks for the help,

Encryption definitely affects speed. You should be running WPA2/AES to get N speeds. Don't use Auto mode. Another problem is the 20-40Mhz deal. I just suggest a D-link card if you need LAN side speeds above 54Mbps.

Well, for some reason Im now able to stay connected at 'ng' speed with my settings at :

Security Mode : WPA Personal

WPA : Auto (WPA or WPA2)

AES Encryption, and a interval of 3600.

My Network Connection (Built in Intel card) is reading 130.0mbs

and the router is telling me it's connected at ng speed.

I first was able to reach N speed by setting the security to WPA2 only, then a week later switched back to Auto (WPA/WPA2) because my son's Xbox 360 didn't support WPA2 and all is well.  I guess the router had to first distinguish that the laptop was able to connect at N with WPA2? Or maybe the fact the I set my laptop security to use WPA2.

But by keeping the router on Auto by son is now able to connect at WPA an be on the network. I  still have my Intel 4965AGN card set to use WPA2 Personal encryption.

Thanks for the reply...I've finally figured it out.  I have to have my card set to WPA2....but the router can be set to AUTO with no problems. The Xbox gets a WPA stream....and the laptop gets a WPA2 stream. you would think that WPA2 would slow down the bandwidth due to the encryption.
Wow...this router is way far advanced than my old Linksys router.

Thanks again,
Sav

When you have the router set to auto, as soon as the WPA capable client connects and authenticates, the entire encryption scheme is dummed down. However as long as you are forcing the Cipher Type to be AES it shouldn't matter if encryption is WPA or WPA2. N speeds require AES.

Ok, Intel is different then D-Link adapters. Thier adpaters do not support the 40 Channel width, which is required for the 300mpbs connection. Intels adapters are only able to connect at the 20, hence the 130.

I understand that Lycan...

I just wanna know how i can keep my speed at 130 without it jumping from 130 all the way too 78 to 39.

My guess is the utility is report actual thoughput. It's normal for it to fluctuate. My question to you is, does it hit those low numbers and come back?
