That sure is interesting since all 3 of my 6 series modems work on my ISPs 50mb/2Mb package. LOL. Ya they just want you to use there modem and not there is all. The 6 Series modems do and will work on 50Mb speeds and beyond.

However since your set up is working now that we have the 4500 in the DMZ on the modem, you should be good man. Maybe later on, you could try a 6 series modem if you get your hands on one.

Enjoy for now.

Well I'm guessing they might have some sort of a contract with Cisco so they can only use that modem for customers or something.

Lately the modem has been dropping my whole LAN/Wireless connections for no reason.  All the lights on the modem are still solid Green and the Lan ports are also blinking.  I wonder if it has to do with the DGL in the DMZ.  It really doesn't help me that logging isn't even allowed/enabled on the cisco modem but when all the computers are disconnected I can't even get into the Modem!  Afaik a 10 sec power cycle always works but this is kind of pissing me off now.

Thats a shame. The DGL wouldn't be the cause of the modem dropping connections in the DMZ, theres no processing being done by the modem so shouldn't effect the modem.

Did some research and according to this webpage:
http://troyfontaine.com/2011/11/cisco-dpc3825-from-shaw-clearer-answers/

The poster says there is something wrong with the firmware itself lol  The SPI Firewall is full of fail and I'm betting the DGL-4500's firewall works as intended.

He also mentions that I can set the modem into bridged mode w/o a firmware update from Shaw but I might try that later.

Awesome info KKWL. This will come in handy for sure. I would definitely give that a try and get all your devices back on the 4500 if this seems to be a problem.

Bah my connection keeps dropping its definitely signal interference but I can't figure out what.  My dad contacted shaw and they said when my connection drops and all the lights are On its a signal thing.

Right now all I've done is take our modem off Auto channel scan and put it on Channel 11 and I'll see how it goes for now.

Any other WiFi routers in the area? Use InSSIDer to find out.

Just ran it on my mom's laptop and theres like 10 other wifi networks in the neighbourhood.

How should I go about switching channels then?  inSSIDer is saying I'm using channel 11+7 (where 7 is the wide channel).

They all on 2.4Ghz? Try to find a channel not being used. If there all on 2.4ghz, I would pick up 5Ghz wiFi adapters and use that radio. Just be aware that 5Ghz is best in line of sight or maybe one wall away. Try and go wired as much as you can. Keep us posted.

Yeah all of them are 2.4 GHz networks two of them are Open :P  I've moved my network to channel 3 as there is only 1 other network on that channel.  Theres at least 6-8 networks on channel 11 and about 2 on channel 6 (although this is probably the best if using non-wide channels).

I've moved mine to channel 3 due to this page on wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_WLAN_channels

I could use channel 5 or 9 but I'm not sure if my speed or signal would degrade, no one in my neighbour uses those.  A majority of them are on 1, 6 and 11

Give the channels that are open a try.
Your area is starting to experience some wireless congestion.
I would think about making the jump to 5Ghz if you can.

Keep us posted.

The wireless on the 4500 is disabled as I don't want it to broadcast atm unless it could be used as a repeater.

Seems like a majority of my neighbourhood uses channel 1 and 11 but my neighbour is using 6 and the signal is good but not excellent.  I almost wish I could use channel 12-14 instead literally nothing there :P
