Need help to connect Dir-655 with Huawei modem
« on: October 11, 2011, 12:30:05 AM »

To all the D-Link superheroes:
I need your help.

I bought the Dir-655 in Taiwan during holidays, in view of setting it up as a router at home (in South Africa).  It didn't work.

I have a Huawei K3765 modem (HSPA USB stick) through Vodacom.  I can get the router to communicate with my laptop, but I cannot get the router to talk to the USB modem.  The manual did say that it can do so, albeit I ignore the two modem types which was stipulated on the box.

This is getting desperate after 3 months.  What must I do now?

Thank you in advance.

p.s.: I have disabled the pin on the USB modem.

Which hardware version do you have? I don't know if that is compatible.

I forgot to check the hardware version when I was last connected.

Is there anything I can do to get the router compatible with the modem?

Hmm, well my first mistake was looking at the NA emulator. Since its not support by NA ISP's, its not included in the NA firmware. It was actually specifcally removed. So first, I hope you have a Taiwan(Or Asia) made device.

Next, to tell the Hardware, look at the Dlink Logo:
A1-A3 - White lettering on black background.
B1 - Black lettering on white background.

So now I am trying to go through the Taiwanese site. Google translate can only take me so far. LOL. You may want to call Dlink. But I think overall it should work.

Hmmm...  I am not home right now, so can't really check the Harware revision.  But, I have the installation CD with me, and the logo is black writing with white background.

Bear in mind that I bought the router this June, so I guess I may have the later version.

I live in South Africa, and I have battled to find D-Link's customer care centre number from the website.  What shall I do next?

Hi

The router label reads:

FCC ID: KA2IR655B1
...
DIR-655B1

So this is a B1 model.  Is there a cure for this router to be connected with a Huawei modem?

Thank you for your assistance in advance!

Under Setup/USB Settings, is there a 3G USB adapter option there? It's probable that using your USB Internet Modem stick will not work on this router as most of these routers need a wired LAN connected to the WAN port on the back.

Hi FurryNutz

There is a USB adapter option.  I think the router does not recognise the USB, and I would like to know if there is a way to rectify this (e.g.: downloading firmware etc.)...

Thanks

This may help. Took some work to find and translate. Seems Dlink removed support for non dlink USB modems in later version, so yea, we need to know the firmware.

Hi

Thanks for the doc, HardHarry.  That describes the d-link modem only though.
Firmware = 2.00
Hardware = B1

Either there is something wrong with my internet at work or I am not looking at the right place, the official D-Link site leads me no where to find a South African rep to talk to...
(Yes, FurryNutz, I live in South Africa.  Maybe that is why I am not even finding a local D-Link website or contact number...)

*Feeling despaired...*

There is this info:
http://www.dlink-africa.com/site/contact/ContactDlinkCentral.asp

Yea, whats up with the IP block of Dlink-africa? Either that or the site is very broken.
