Newbie question concerning N & G networks
« on: October 11, 2011, 11:09:09 AM »

I need help.  This is probably a stupid question...

I noticed in the admin wireless settings you can name your 2.4hz "G" Wireless network & your 5hz "N" Networks different names.
Are you suppose to do this?

Currently I have them both the same network name.   If you keep them the same name, does the router know if the adapter is a G or N device & connects it accordingly?

Or do you have to name these networks differently in order to get the faster N speed for N compatible devices.

How can you tell what speed you are connected to (G or N) on an iphone 4 or ipad 2?

Need help.

It's possible that using the same name on each radio would would as long as the device your trying to connect to would pick the higest supported band. I think people get in the frame of mind, at least for me, to name each band differently for ease of use and identification. I would recommend if you have deviced that support both 2.4 and 5Ghz, I would name them differently.

To tell the speed of the devices that are connected to the router, look on the Status Page/Wireless. Will show you whats connected and at what speeds.
