Ad hoc disconnecting

I am trying to connect my desktop with a DWA 130 to my netbook through an ad hoc network, which is hosted on the netbook.

   Whenever I try to connect my desktop to the network, it will briefly say connected, then disconnect after a few seconds. the netbook was able to connect to my network printer just fine. I'm not using this network for internet, and I am using windows 7 home premium on both computers. If anybody can help it would be much appreciated.

Hi Materx80 I am a fellow D Link customer wishing to help a bit.   Just a few questions however, did you install the drivers from the disk that came with the product or DL updated drivers from Dlink?   I have found that the drivers on the disk are usually outdated.   I have found also that installing the drivers from the disk also installs other software by default, which may or may not be beneficial.   I have installed disk drivers and then updated using the update driver method in device manager(google it).  It also helps to identify the hardware version/revision then DL drivers(I have the E1 with Firmware 5.10)  The information is on the box and on the device itself.  Located the correct driver and download with getright(ensures complete DLs if your on Wi Fi or the like), then update driver.

Thanks for the reply Matt.

I did update the drivers when I first got it, and I also checked for updated drivers after the problem occurred. Unfortunately it didn't actually work, the drivers were already up to date. I tried using the swoftware that came on the disc, but it didn't work either, I normally just used the windows wireless manager, because it worked for wifi before.

This next tip may or may not help you, its about setting up a static IP in the local network range of IPs(ie 192.168.1.100 and up)  Then at the next PC set up a IP with one more digit(192.168.1.101 you see)  This tip was found by me in a recent google search, I dont think I will be able to find it again as its been a while.  I will search in the meantime, next is a link in microsofts pages about home groups here it is-> http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/help/home-sweet-homegroup-networking-the-easy-way
I was under the impression that windows 7 made networking easier have you had trouble connecting things in the past?
