Using DNS-325 with Linux ... for dummies
« on: October 18, 2011, 07:52:47 AM »

Hi, I consider myself with intermediate Linux/networks knowledge. I bought some ND-325 for backups of several Linux boxes we have. I already 'configured' the DNS-325 for access via NFS (from SuSE 11.2) and was able to copy from/to. Also was able to use a Windows shared drive. What we want? To use DNS-325 for (easily) backup and/or restore some folders from a Linux box.

If configure the remote backup and try the remote to local, and starts rsync I´m able to 'log into' the Linux box, but the shared path is always empty.

Of course, I've read the 5 pages of this forum and the user manual, but still I'm not able to figure what's the best way to have a reliable backup/restore method for my linux boxes.

Any ideas? Any withepaper of manual where check the best way (and how configure it) to use DNS-325 with Linux ...

  Thanks in advance,

Is there a cifs - smbfs module for SuSE?  I know in Ubuntu thats what I used to be able to mount the drives during boot from the fstab.
I always found this to be the best way to talk to my 323's and the most reliable as the drive mount is done by root during boot.  This should then allow you to use rsync, as long as you have rights to the directories.
