DIR-655 Broken?
« on: October 21, 2011, 07:22:25 PM »

My DIR-655 stopped working after updating firmware to 3.35.   Only power light comes on.  port4 flashes for a microsecond when I plug it in. Recovery mode has not done anything.  Computer acts like nothing is connected through ethernet, says "No Cable Connected."  Only power light stays on the whole time. I am guessing this thing is broken now.  when i go through ipconfig, "no media connected."  Any ideas?  If not whats a good router under a hundred bucks today, had this router since early 2007.

please help.  thanks

Yes, No luck there.  Tried the reset while plugging back in, etc.

Try this?

Its for the DIR-825, but the procedure should be similar enough. Make sure the firmware version you are using is correct for your hardware version and geograhical location. Another words, if your in Germany, you probably don't want to be using a firmware with NA in the title. If your unsure, reply with the exact full model number and I can give you a FTP link.

Have tried most of the hard reset stuff on there.  Everything still shows no media connected when viewing the ethernet adapter.

What country did you purchase the router from?

Also, try this? If you cant get to a place to load firmeware (or access your current firmware) it's all for not. What firmware did you load? I see A version not going above 1.35NA and B version not going above 2.03NA. I think that may be your problem right there. May have bricked your router  :'(

655ANA should be a North America version router.  A2's are the most rock solid of all the A versions.  Not sure where you got 3.35 from unless that is a typo.  1.35NA is the latest firmware available for the A line.

If it is bricked check around online for deals on routers.  TigerDirect often has recertified ones for $20.00.

Maybe it was overheating when you upgraded. Maybe you upgraded via wireless? Or maybe it was a bad download. Thats too bad. From someone who just had his router die, I feel your pain.

Thanks for the help.  I just gave up.  Bought the dir-615, flashed dd-wrt, I have read that this makes it tough to actually brick it, which would be good for me haha.  Good, reliable performance so far.  Thanks again.
