Need help please - Ports and Battlefield 3
« on: October 26, 2011, 08:41:33 AM »

Need help please. Has anyone setup their DGL-4500 to allow Battlefield 3 multiplayer to launch successfully? I set up the following rules based on the ports to open on one of the forum posts as well as going through the recommendations from portforward.com with no luck.

Name1
IP: (IP of computer I am running it on)
TCP 80,443,9988
UDP 3659,14000-14016

Name2
IP: (IP of computer I am running it on)
TCP 20000-29999 (said to have port 22990 here but after saving rule, said it couldn’t have dupe port numbers)
UDP 22990-23006

Name3
IP: (IP of computer I am running it on)
TCP 17502,42127
UDP 25200-25300

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

This for PC or game console? If console which one?
Also make sure firewall is set for Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP.

I ran into this issue with playing WoW on both laptops.  You can't forward the same ports to different IP's.

Could you try this for me?  Could you totally disable Gamefuel, reboot the server router and check all 3 computers??

I wonder if it would help you also.

Technically speaking, if the computer (Or device on the LAN) initiates the communication, there *should* be no need for forwarding ports.   Granted, this is not the case every time and your mileage may vary..

I personally lock my firewall down with UDP/TCP Endpoint filtering and have no issues playing WoW. Both of mine are set to Port and Address restricted. Setting it on Endpoint Independent is a good check also..  ;)

EDIT:  Are the PC's playing on different accounts, or are all PC's sharing the 1 account?  If you have 1 account across all PC's, that's your issue.  You are only allowed 1 live connection/account at a time (Since you sign on).

Is I playing on PC or game console. I presume PC since he's listed the PC ports however we probably need to find out what platform he's playing on first.  ::)

Not enough coffee today then huh? LOL ::)

@VOS - I would enter in your port information into Gamefuel and see how it handles everything. I don't think you'll need port 80 at all as thats a standard port that doesn't need any forwarding or management.

Thanks for all the replies. These are the instructions I was going off of. Portfoward told me to setup three rules even though I am only running one pc.

What HW version is your router?
What FW version is currently loaded?

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?
If this modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems.

Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual? You can find these under Status/Device Info/Wan section.
Turn off ALL QoS (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router.
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP.

urn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing.
Turn off all devices accept for one wired PC while testing.

Thanks for the tips. I'll try this out when I get home. Do I need all three of those rules or can I combine all those ports into one rule? Just going off the steps provided in the link

You can set up 1 rule, or break them up like they did. If you want to combine them into 1 rule, just add all of the TCP ports and UDP ports together and point them to the one computer you are playing BF3.

None of the ports overlap, so you can add the 3 different rules, and point them to the same computer (IP).  If you get an error, double-check the ports.

Yea, having different rules only helps for isolating issues. That way if you have multiple devices, and want to port forward Port A to device 1 and Port B to device 2, you can just change how they are clicked off and reboot. If its all under one rule you cant.

But I don't the answer to the fallowing questions:

1. Are you trying to play one 3 computers via 1 account? If so, as freggboy said, thats no good.

2. Have you tried UPnP?

If you have multiple devices trying to play on server, then you need to use UPnP, or use port triggering (which is really messy). I highly suggest UPnP. But if your using UPnP, you can't really use Gamefuel like you normally would. What you can do is use Gamefuel to increase the priority of other traffic (say port 80) to other computers other then those. But that would only help if they were trying to use their computers while you tried to game on 4 PC at the same time. And to be honest, if your trying to game on 4 PCs at the same time, you should just tell them to stay off the net while you do it, because your pushing your router hard.

I just assumed the 3 PC's when I saw the 3 rules, but they replied they only use 1 PC.. :(  It clicked for me when I went to the URL they provided.  Why they broke the ports up I don't know..

Ooh, nevermind then.

If thats the case, i would check your PC's firewall and Antivirus. Those will block the ports too.

Also, try to answer Furry's questions.
