UPnP Server Won't Serve up .M4V Video Containers?
« on: February 10, 2009, 05:17:29 PM »

So, judging by the fact .m4v videos are not being broadcast from my DNS-323, I'm guessing they're not supported.

Not that I could tell from the DNS-323 FAQ (yeah, we know it supports MPEG4, but what types?!) ::)

.MP4 extension (MPEG4) should play.

Yeah, .mp4 videos play just fine, and that's, more or less, what an .m4v is...so why can't it serve up .m4v containers?

That file types seems to not be supported on the DNS-323 for whatever reason I do not have details It may have something to do with Apple copyright issues or just not included but im not sure.

This sounds [exploitive deleted], but have you tried renaming your .m4v file to .mp4?  It will work the same.

That trick doesn't work with renaming .aac or .m4a files, though.

The D-Link technical staff is already familiar with my rants about the UPnP server. :)

And when was d u m b considered an expletive?  :-)

Yeah, it's not really a huge issue because I've just been saving them as .mp4 files, however, iTunes and iPods and all that Apple crap seem to like it even better when h.264 vids are in .m4v files, hence my original question.

Not a deal-breaker, just a strange thing, considering, as I mentioned earlier in the thread, .m4v files are almost identical to .mp4.
