DNS-323 with iTunes 10.5
« on: October 28, 2011, 07:14:13 AM »

When iTunes released version 10.5 my FireFly plugin for D-Link has stopped working.  From what I can gather it seems that the iTunes server software developers (like FireFly) have to adjust their software to work with the new iTunes rather than iTunes releasing a patch to work with existing iTunes servers (like FireFly).  I am not sure if I am posting this in the right forum, but does DLINK intend to get this fixed?

I've already read that Netgear has released a patch for their ReadyNAS devices.

Thank you

To anyone who is reading this I have opened up a support query with D-LINK to see if they can provide me we any information on this issue.

Hopefully they will get back to me with some information.

I think it would be comforting to know if they are aware of this issue, and if they are a)either working on a fix or b)working with apple to get apple to write a fix.

I opened up a ticket with D-LINK and here was their response:
----------------------
You are correct. The DNS-323 support up to iTunes 9. Apple as changed the implementation of the itunes server in 10 so that the DNS-323 would require and update to the current itunes server. I have no update at this time regarding plans to update the DNS-323 iTunes to support further versions of iTunes.

Should you require further assistance with your D-Link products, please reply to this message, or call toll free at 877-453-5465.

Thank you for networking with D-Link.

Sincerely,
Eric F

So to me it looks like they recognize this as a D-LINK issue.  However, they may or may not decide to fix it.  Maybe if their is enough requests they will.

iTunes came out with a release today.

10.5.1 (42)

A few people are reporting their NAS's are now working.

D-LINK 323 Running the FireFly add-on, however, is still not working.  Others aren't working as well.  This is all in reference to this thread

10.5.1.42 Worked for Me

I had the same problem on my DNS-323 (fw 1.08) running iTunes 10.4 on Win7 64-bit.  When I clicked on the shared library on the NAS box, iTunes would spin for a minute, then momentarily show the music library on it, before switching back to the local music library.

I just upgraded to iTunes 10.5.1.42 (64-bit) and the problem is fixed!

I recently updated iTunes (Windows) to version 10.6.0.40 and now it works with the "iTunes Server" feature of my NetGear DNS-323.  With 10.5 iTunes would briefly flash the contents of my "nas" under "SHARED" but then the focus would switch back to "LIBRARY->Music".  Now with 10.6.0.40 the focus will stay on my "nas" under "SHARED" and I can play music through this share.  FYI, my DNS-323 is running v1.10 firmware.

Problem Solved!

I found I have a 5 GB limit on the music in the DNS iTunes share folder for it to show up in iTunes.  Anything over 5 GB will not show up.

This is on a Windows XP machine over a wireless N network.  I'm guessing a hardline cable might give me more, but doubt it would be enough for my 50 GB of music I want to share.

:sigh:  :'(
