Improving Speeds

Hello All,

I have been using the DNS 320 for a while now and cant get speeds even close to what has been described in other posts. I replaced the LAN cable and just yesterday replaced the router for a DGND3700 N600 which has Gigabit LAN.
It seems to have solved my Samsung TV connection issue but the speed is still quite slow.
Over wireless (tried standing right next to the router) and my speed has increased from 500kbs to 1mbs but still seems really slow compared to what people have mentioned here.

Secondly I tried to download something overnight via the FTP download function of the device and it was going at speeds of between 10-20kbs. Previously I was actually getting a respectable speed (not fast but respectable)

Thirdly when I try and copy something over LAN from my main PC to the NAS I am getting speeds of around 5mbs which is up from the 2-3 I was getting previously but nowhere near the 20-30 I hear of people getting.

I though that buying a new to of the range router and getting a gigabit lan cable would have at least gotten me to the group average but I am still in the slow lane. Are there any settings I am missing? Anything else I can try to get things working better?

To have Gigabit speed, you need to have Gigabit equipment and cables from end to end:
Your computer needs to be connected using a gigabit ethernet port and gigabit cable to your gigabit router, and the same between the router and the NAS.

Throw wifi or any equipment that only has wired 100Mbps capability and in the mix and gigabit is pretty much useless.

I have replaced all equipment to get a true gigabit network. All cords, computers and modem are gigabit compatible.

As for wireless, I would have expected it to be higher the less then 1mb per second when I am standing above the modem.

Also why would timed FTP download be going so slowly on the network?

Could the unit be faulty?
