I have had this problem before
I cant get the file list to refresh.  The system goes through the refresh without error but my drive files have not been refreshed

I have restored default settings
unplugged unit
refreshed too root and specific directory

What am i supposed to do.  I am not reformating the drives as they are populated

How do I force a delecte of index file

Did you wait at least 2hrs. after the refresh before checking to see if the files have been added?

I ask because that has pretty much been the absolute shortest amount of time I've seen for the UPnP server to start broadcasting new file additions after doing a refresh/index rebuild.

i just reset system and with reset button and software
did a refresh and then went to a movie

came back and now it doesnt show anything so maybe its starting to work
just needs more time

In my experience, It refreshes almost right away....
I saw multiple posts regarding the refresh issue... But I can says that I don't suffer from that

Heres my setup
2x Seagate ST31000340AS as 2 volumes (NO RAID or JBOD)
On volume_1 I have a folder named Movies that everyone has "Read Only" access to
UPNP Media Server is activated and the folder selected is the same Movies folder has above

The Movies folder contains multiple Folders, one for each movie or TV Show
and each one of those folders  contains 1 or multiple video files (mostly .AVI in DivX or Xvid)

If I had a new folder inside the Movies folder, and do a manual refresh, has soon has its done,
I can find it on my Xbox360 and play the movie... (the manual update can take a couple of minutes to complete, I have over 200 Folders and 1000 files in the Movies folder)

The only thng That I noticed is that the Xbox360 and a problem playing video that has a PATH and FILE name over 70 chars total....
I can see the Folder fine... (the name is truncated but its there) and inside the folder I see the movie file(again the name is truncated) and if I try to play it I get an error code...(don't remember it right now.. but its in one of my other posts here)

If I rename the Folder and File name to something shorter (that fits the 70 chars limit),
refresh the File List,
The new name is there and I can start playing the movie right away.

It sounds like I have considerably more files being shared by UPnP on my DNS-323 than you do, Buhric, so that would explain why it takes mine ~20-30min. to do a full refresh and a couple of hours for the new files to show up to another device attached to the DNS-323 via UPnP.

mine simply dont show up
its with a ps3

I do a refresh and wait and still dont see them

I have turned off my torrents and anything else that accesses the drive so there are no conflicts and will try again

Have you started off simple, with, say, just a single .mp3 audio file with a simple filename (i.e. no special characters) in the UPnP folder?  In other words, something you know the DNS-323 index build won't choke on as well as something you know the PS3 can play.

ok, i got it to work even got the bt to work now which didnt before

I reset to default a couple of times

Then I pressed the reset button a few times that is on the unit, held in in when I powered it up

Then left unplugged for 30 minutes

powered up
loaded default configuration
Easy search to set up BT (I cant remember if I did this b4 load of default configuration)

refreshed UPNP list

BT works through file or URL BT

awsome

Just wish I didnt have to reset to default to get things working

Well, I've found on pretty much any embedded OS device, when flashing firmware, you should really do a reset to defaults/NVRAM reset before and after flashing the firmware...this has been my experience with commercial-grade appliances, but especially with SOHO/home-user networking appliances.

BTW, I couldn't help myself any longer and decided to hack my DNS-323 to run telnet so I could then install a 30-day trial of Twonkyvision UPnP server...and it pretty much works perfectly.
