I bought an pulse 320 because my MBA has a tiny hard disk and i needed a backup for my pictures.

I want mount the NAS as an hard disk in finder(my computer) which i can access from another IP when i not am at home.
somehow i can't find the way to make this happen.

i can access the has from the internal network but from outside it is impossible

i have forwarded port 21 in the router to the internal ip of the has (it is a manual ip so it won't change).
the ip of the internet provider is also static.

i tried to connect with server (in finder)

smb://wan ip:21
smb://wan ip:21/volume_1

can't get an connection.

well, I'm not expert but what you are saying does not make sense.

SMB is the protocol use locally when connected to the same LAN/network. You could also use it over the wan, but not recommended.

FTP, would be the protocol to connect over the internet. So if you want to connect over the WAN, make sure you use an FTP program. Also, FTP is not that secure, so make sure you use SSL/TSL. I pray for the day Dlink supports SCP/SFTP out of the box. Which you can get, with the fun plugin.

but with ftp i can't get an "disk"  mounted?
i still have to connect and streaming isn't possible?

i used hamachi from logmein and that app made it possible to mount drives as it were local drives.
that kind of feature i want for my has.

Yes, hamachi is just like a VPN, you connect to the network and then can mount any drives/share, even when you are physically remotely, your PC is part of the network where the shares are located.

FTP wouldn't be an option on your case, at least not for streaming. For just accessing (copy/upload) files it would be.

You could try the SMB over the WAN, but you would have to open the TCP ports necessary for it. Do not know what they are. But then, you have to also pay attention to the security aspects. This is not recommended, google it.

Or also try the UPnP and Itunes apps within the DNS-320. But again, you have to open the TCP ports on your firewall.

with the new beta firmware afp is available again.

so i forwarded port 548 to the has internal IP.

i tried to connect to the has from another (neighbor) ip:

afp://ip
afp://ip:548

doesn't work, am i doing something wrong or isn't it possible?

Okay i f***ed up myself.

Somehow my router didn't want to change anything so he didn't forward the port.
now i changed it and double checked it and it works

how to do it:
1) log in to your router.
2) go to the tab: "port forwarding"
3) fill in at local ip the ip of your NAS
    portrange: 548-548 (open port 548)
that is the port for the afp service.

4) ADD and apply and restart if necessary and check if your router did it

5) in  MAC OS LION go to finder.
6) GO->Connect to server
7) server adres:
 afp://yourinternetip
now fill in your username and password. make sure you have an tough password so hard to guess

Have fun

for samba and ifs you have to look up which ports they use standard

and somehow it doesn't work anymore even when i did not change anything.

dns and mac osx is not a happy combination.
will look for a brand with a better software, this sucks.
