opps! error page on dir-655 rev b1 firmware 2.0
« on: November 11, 2011, 06:48:16 AM »

hi   :-\

i keep getting random dink error pages for time to time when loading any external website from Google to Hotmail to Facebook.

now this is not happening all the time and its not happening on all tabs at one time, it is purely random and is very annoying. i have tried resetting the config in the router and still can not fix this issue

i'm not having any drop outs from the modem and if im plugged into the modem on its own this never happens

the only post i can find about this on the forums didn't have the solution. at this point I'm ready to through it away and go back to Netgear as i have never had this issue with any other product.

Regards Maxi  ???  :P

What browser are you using?
Try a different browser like Opera or FF?

What HW version is your router?
What FW version is currently loaded?

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?
If this modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems.

Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual? You can find these under Status/Device Info/Wan section.
Turn off ALL QoS (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router.
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP.

What wireless modes are you using?
Try single mode G or mixed G and N?
What security mode are you using? WEP, WPA or WPA2? Preferred is WPA-Personal. WPA2/Auto TPIK and AES.
What wireless devices do you have connected?
Any cordless house phones?
Any other WiFi routers in the area?

Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing.
Turn off all devices accept for one wired PC while testing.

Check cable between Modem and Router, swap out to be sure. Cat6 or 5e recommended.

This is a 2wire 2071-A Gateway? I believe this modem does have router built in. Need to verify this if possible. Does it have it's own web page? Can you log in to the modems web page?

Reason for asking is that we've seem numerous problems with 2wire modems. They usually have a router built in.
I found this document here about bridging:
http://packetman.com.au/kb/entry/248/

I recommend if you can do this, turn the 2wire modem into just that, a MODEM and leave off the router section if possible.

Also does the 2wire modem have a DMZ option?

-------------------------------------------------------
the modem dose have its own webpage however the only options in there are connection and firewall options there is not routing option what so ever.

This modem is not a router the link you gave me dose not match any settings in my modem if it is a router its would be strange as its is a one port Ethernet / usb modem and not WiFi, it dose have a DMZ option for the firewall and it is set to ***Allow all applications (DMZplus mode) –  Set the selected computer in DMZplus mode. All inbound traffic, except traffic which has been specifically assigned to another computer using the “Allow individual applications” feature, will automatically be directed to this computer. The DMZplus-enabled computer is less secure because all unassigned firewall ports are opened for that computer. Current DMZplus computer: DIR-655***

however there is no disable option for the firewall in the modem this is why it set to this option to allow the dir-655 to control the firewall.

i have had a linksys wireless router plugged into this modem and not had any issues i only swapped to this dlink modem as the linksys was over heating as it was a few years old.

If it was just a modem, it wouldn't have a "DMZplus" option. Here is the manual. And on page one it VERY clearly says it has a router built in. Page 29 shows how to set it to bridge. There are lots of other option you can adjust, but I don't feel like reading the manual for you, but feel free.

As for your problem, not sure why you would getting THAT error when you have a internet issue. Did you install the Dlink software? Maybe its a DNS redirect? Either way, the error clearly shows the router can't detect the internet connection from your 2wire device, that is why we started there.

My modem dose not have a bridge option where this manual states it is

The DMZ plus option is only under the firewall options .

also when this error occurs i still have internet connection as im dual screening and surfing the web while playing online games, if i press f5 a few time it then loads the page im trying to load

Oh, thats my bad.  :-[

Wrong manual. Manual I gave was for 2701 while you have a 2071...small mistake, big difference. I tried to find the 2071 manual but Pace didn't carry it over when they bought out 2wire it seems. These are the only one they seem to support. But looking at this tells me your Dlink is getting a 60.242.x.x IP.

Lets get back to your problem though. When you loose the internet connection, do the Dlink logs say anything around that time?

its not a lost of connection at all see i can be gaming in world of warcraft and not get dc and have 2 pages load and 1 come up with the error, or i can have the main page load and a video box for youtube have the error page in it. once you spam f5 it loads the page. but apart for that my connection on world of Warcraft dose not drop at all nor does it lag.
