Disassembly?
« on: November 13, 2011, 07:07:23 AM »

Have any of you disassembled your camera? I am interested in opening mine up but would like to know how to do it without destroying the case. Mine is actually a 942 but I figure it is similar enough to the 932 and there are way more people with a 932, so I posted here.

I bet someone's asking themselves why I would want to open it. Well, first of all I would like to drill a hole in the dark plastic in front of the photocell to allow in a little more light. This way the night mode doesn't activate until it's darker. Then I would like to look around for curiosity's sake, since I would be in there anyways.

If you successfully mod your DCS-9XXL to reduce the sensitivity for day/night mode transition, please post your results (and stepwise instructions here).

I think it goes without saying (but it needs to be said nonetheless) that simply opening the DCS-9XXL case (let alone drilling holes) will void your warranty.  ;D

I bump this thread.

It is possible to change the light sensitivity of the DCS-932L's night mode by changing the value of some of the resistors in the light detection circuit. The resistor values must be carefully chosen and then tested out at the camera's location to get it to work properly.

However, this is NOT a simple operation and demand expert knowledge in electronics and soldering to figure out what to do to achieve what you want.

Since you are talking about drilling as an option to change the sensitivity, don't even bother to try. You will most likely destroy the camera.

Buy a real camera like the dcs-2230 which you can control by setting hours.

But that's not really necessarily in auto mode. Works great
