My DIR-655 web interface doesn't cooperate
« on: November 19, 2011, 01:24:19 PM »

Lately, when I log in to my router (192.168.1.1) refuses to communicate with me in IE8 or Chrome. It seems to work 'OK' with Firefox (not as smooth as it used to up until couple of weeks ago, but still works).
I am getting either no response when I click on specific links under STATUS, or a very slow one. I also get no details at all.
For example - I click on Wireless where you can see 'Wireless clients that are connected' and nothing appears even though there are at least 5 devices that are currently connected.
(All this is happening when I type this message; I do have full connectivity to the internet).
I click on Device Info - nothing happens.

Any idea what that could be?

Try using compatibility mode for IE8 and 9.

Try using compatibility mode for IE8 and 9.

No, that didn't help.

What wireless modes are you using?
Try single mode G or mixed G and N?
What security mode are you using? WEP, WPA or WPA2? Preferred is WPA-Personal. WPA2/Auto TPIK and AES.
What wireless devices do you have connected?
Any cordless house phones?
Any other WiFi routers in the area?
Turn off Short GI under Advanced/Adv. Wireless.

What Hardware version is your router?
What Firmware version is currently loaded?

Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual? You can copy and paste these from under Status/Device Info/Wan section.
Turn off ALL QoS (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router.
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP.

To make it somewhat simple, it does seem to work fine with Firefox.

normally is it 192.168.0.1, or did you change it on your router to 192.168.1.1?

OK, I was finally able to test this in two different computers - same exact behavior. In IE (8 or 9) and even through my Smartphone, the interfact get stuck and does not show, for example, wireless clients that are currently connected (Status, Wireless).
Also, if I am logged in through Firefox and it works fine, if I log in through IE simultaneously the Firefox session freezes as well.

What wireless modes are you using?

Try single mode G or mixed G and N?

Mixed 802.11n and 802.11g

What security mode are you using? WEP, WPA or WPA2? Preferred is WPA-Personal. WPA2/Auto TPIK and AES.

Auto (WPA or WPA2)

What wireless devices do you have connected?

PC's (W7, XP, Wireless printer [Brother MFC], Samsung Galaxy S2)

Any cordless house phones?

No

Any other WiFi routers in the area?

Yes...neighbors, not in the same house though.

Turn off Short GI under Advanced/Adv. Wireless.

Done. Nothing changes.

What Hardware version is your router?

B1

What Firmware version is currently loaded?

2.01 NA

Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual? You can copy and paste these from under Status/Device Info/Wan section.
They are filled

Turn off ALL QoS (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options.

I am hesitant to do that. I need QOS for my work VoIP...I have one rule setup which is RTP

Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Did that, and as soon as I unchecked it, the DNS numbers that were filled before got deleted. I added them manually. Still no change though.

Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.

Already on

Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router.
Already done.

Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Already done.

I don't see how all these things could be related to the fact that it refuses to work with IE, only with Firefox...

You could try updating FW and see. Review the FW update sticky for the process. Not sure if it will help however it might. I'm using v2.00 and use IE9 and don't have any issues logging in on Windows 7 x64.

It's possible that maybe the current FW needs to be reloaded too. I would try reloading the current version and see. If problem still remains, update to current and test again. If your bothered by updating you can always leave it and use FF to manage the router too.
