Is shareport really not compatible with Macs?
« on: November 22, 2011, 06:22:36 PM »

I spent 3 hours with D-Links non-english speaking tech support today. From the broken english, I was able to gather that D-Link released their HD media router 2000 amplifi N 600+ (DIR-827) without a shareport that is compatible with macs. The box clearly states that this router is compatible with OSX. Am I mistaken? Am I misinformed? Or is D-Link really that stupid?

I am looking to connect a Lacie external hard drive to the router to share movies, pics, etc. with my room mates. Can anybody help, or recommend a router that I can use with my Macbook Pro?

Thanks.

Windows installer only.

Can I run a windows mirror on my laptop to access my router? My hard drive is formatted for Macs. Will that also be problematic?

Well I didn't see any Shareport utility on the 827 site. I presume the router itself is what they are refering too as being compatible however they Shareport utility may not be. You might try downloading SP for Mac from one of the other routers, I think the SW is about the same. That might work.

Shareport for Mac was just posted yesterday for the DIR-827.

Under support resources--->Additional downloads---> Shareport Plus (Mac)

Let us know if it works for you.

I tried this with my Dir-655.   I installed the Shareport plus v 4.2  on my MBP 13" late 2011 model.  It recognized my printer and HDD for about 30 sec, and I was able to print 1 page.  But after that, it showed an error (something like server doesn't recognized / not reject properly), and the shareport utility still showed the printer and HDD is connected, but Finder no longer shows the HDD being mounted and printer is offline.

Should this work for DIR-635 and other products too?
