I have specified a Website Filter for example.com.

After enabling an access control schedule and attemping to visit the domain, I find that I can still access example.com, but not www.example.com.

I am running 1.21 and would rather not upgrade unless neccesary since its running rock solidly stable and I also perused changelogs to see if there were any bug fixes on website filters.

What am I doing wrong?

How are you setting up the web site filter. I just tested this on my B1 using v2.00 and it's working well.
Are your devices using Reserved IP addresses on the router?

Try using the following process:

Yes, I am using DHCP reservation on some of my machines, but not all of them.

What do you mean as far how I am setting up the web site filter? I entered "example.com" and "www.example.com" on the Web Filter page and saved it, then enabled the Access Control policy/schedule.

are they reserved ON the router or at the device? On the router is preferred.

you only need XXXXXX.com, you don't need www.XXXXXX.com

Also, make sure to delete all your temp files and such. Also keep in mind if you have static DNS set on the computers to anything other then 192.168.0.1 (or what ever you set your gateway too) it work work. But sounds like that isn't the case since its blocking xxxx.com.

PS. Thats ONE time you may not want to edit my link Furry. Hehehehe.

I do not agree with what you have already been told.  Try this:

Remember that the "websites" filter acts on keywords, not URL's.

Do not enter URLs or complete site addresses for your filter to process, just keywords.  For instance, to block www.bloodfighting.com enter only bloodfighting, nothing else.  Some recommendations for your list are:

google-analytics
free
casino
spy
winner
gift
sextracker
Rolex
deals
advertise

You get the idea.

I disagree. Where did you get this info?  There isn't anyway it could scan the entire page for keywords. That would take up so much overhead it would be silly. I don't even think wildcards work. If you wanted to filter keywords on page, you would need a parental control client running locally or some sort of toolbar installed in the browser. A quote directly from the DIR-655's Support page:

"This section is where you add the Web sites to be used for Access Control. The Web sites listed here are used when the Web Filter option is enabled in Advanced → Access Control.

Website Filter Parameters
Website URL/Domain
Enter the URL (address) of the Web Site that you want to allow or deny; for example: google.com. Do not enter the http:// preceding the URL. Enter the most inclusive domain; for example, select allow and enter dlink.com and access will be permitted to both www.dlink.com and support.dlink.com.
Note: Many web sites construct pages with images and content from other web sites. For example, to access my.yahoo.com, you would need to select allow and type yahoo.com, yimg.com, and doubleclick.net.
40 -- Website Filtering Rules
The section lists the current denied or allowed web sites."

Hello again friends.  As to point/counterpoint, I do not think router has enough capacity to block everything I want blocked if I do it like the instructions you cite.  I have used the macro (block the string) rule since I first bought this A2 router and with my instructions instead of dlinks, you can block ALL the pesky sites that globally offend you that fit a keyword.  It is MUCH more effective than doing one site at a time by adding the .com suffex.  Sure there will be a few times you want to do the Micro (site specific) route, you can do global blocking using the technique I cite.  A really big plus is that in many cases I get desired webpages with blocked advertising sections...LOTS of blocked advertising sections.

For instance to block any and all of the following, it is better to do it globally.

spy
redirect
click
bargain
bonus
official
winner
track
adserve
winner
popup
banner
offer
counter

You get the idea.  Works fantasitcally and you can save many of your slots for more specific and important things.
