DFL-800: How to create a simple DHCP reservation?
« on: November 30, 2011, 06:30:11 PM »

Hello

Before i start i would like to state that i searched both forum and Google.

What i want to do is this:

The DHCP server (on the DFL-800) is currently distributing ip's in the range between 192.168.5.150 - 190.
This works fine. Everyone gets an ip and browses the internet.

What i want is to create a reservation for a computer so it always get the ip 192.168.5.10 .

This is possible right?

Now the part that befuddles me:

The official guide (chapter5_DHCP_Services.pdf) says on page 130:

Web Interface

1. Go to System > DHCP > DHCP Servers > DHCPServer1 > Static Hosts > Add > Static Host Entry

2. Now enter:
• Host: 19.168.1.1
• MAC: 00-90-12-13-14-15

3. Click OK

I check this on my own DFL-800 (fw 2.05.00, May 16 2006) and i cant find this option!

So i was wondering, how do i solve this?

Regards.

I tried creating an ARP entry

Doesnt seem to have any effect on the targeted computer, even after ipconfig / release / renew and including a restart.

2.05 is very old firmware
Update your DFL to latest version, but not directly - 2.05 > 2.20 > 2.27.03.25
Before upgrade, don't forget save backup of your config

danilovav,

I got 3 routers like these, but they are all in remote locations. I have remote https access.

Do you recommend updating the routers or is it better to just leave as is? I would like to have the DHCP service working properly but if upgrading is going to bring me problems, maybe i will forget about it.

For example, I cannot afford to lose configurations during upgrade process...

I'm using them for ADSL routers and VPN features.

So tell me, how does the firmware upgrade process work? Does it delete all configurations and then you have to restore from backup ?

By default, firmware upgrade will keep your configuration
But, i strongly recommend you to do it face-to-face with device, because a lot of situations can be happened with remote access
Upgrade process itself is very simple - just upload update file (better thru HTTP) and wait for 2 minutes
Config backup you can need only to restore DFL from unexpected situations, so better to have it always
