Bricked?
« on: December 01, 2011, 06:18:37 PM »

In an attempt to flash my firmware, I think I may have bricked it. I'd been having issues ever since I upgraded f/w, so I had hoped that going back to 3.10 would help.

PC:
Ubuntu 11.10
Firefox 8

Router:
DIR-615 Revision C1
F/W (before flash attempt): 3.12

I did a 30/30/30 and then pulled the power for 20 seconds. Held the reset button, plugged it back in, and continued to hold for five seconds to access emergency mode (the default user interface has NEVER allowed me to flash my firmware before, no matter which browser I use). I set my IP to static (192.168.0.2) and connected DIRECTLY (read: with an ethernet cable).

I then uploaded the 3.10 .bin and hit Send. A loading bar came up at the bottom saying "Sending request to server" or something to that effect. I put the laptop down, went away, came back five minutes later to find my browser had changed to a page that said it couldn't connect to the server but the URL had changed to 192.168.0.1/cgi/index. I went and changed back to Automatically Detect DHCP and tried to connect. Nothing.

I tried to do it again, same thing. Since then I've tried every subsequent f/w release in hopes it would flash but it won't do a thing. My power light is flashing orange after a 30/30/30 (but not after the 20/5) and I can't connect to the router until I do a hard reset and access the emergency mode screen. When I do connect, my LAN light comes on for port 1 as normal.

I've run
Code: [Select]
ping -t ttl 192.168.0.1 at various points throughout this and I either cannot hit it or my ttl=0

Any thoughts? Please and thank you.

I should mention that I understand firmware does not, in itself, fix issues. I was merely eliminating the possibility of a communication issue between my laptop, which runs linux, and my router firmware as the cause of the problem.
