ATA drive with adapter
« on: February 20, 2009, 12:29:33 PM »

I am looking at purchasing the DNS-323 and have an existing ATA drive.

I am wondering if I would be able to use an ATA drive with an ATA to SATA adapter in the DNS-323.

I have included a picture of the adapter below

Thanks.

First - the adapter pictured will let you use a SATA drive in a system that only supports ATA, and not an ATA drive in a SATA system, which is what would be needed.

Second - this unit has no internal cables, so you would need an adapter with the connectors in just the right location for them to line up.

And last - there is very little space to spare in the unit - so even if you did find an adapter, I doubt that you could get everything in.

Thanks for the informative reply.
Just to double check there is no way for me to use my old ATA drive in the DNS-323.

You're welcome - and - if there is, I'm not aware of it, and, for the reasons mentioned above, I seriously doubt that there is.
