DIR-645 with DAP-1522
« on: December 04, 2011, 03:12:55 PM »

I previously used my DAP-1522 in bridge mode with an older revision of DIR-655 but was not getting fast enough speeds with it to watch any streaming HD content, however the device worked pretty flawlessly without any dropped connections. I got the DIR-645 to replace the 655. It turns out the DAP-1522 would refuse to work with the DIR-645 using WPA2 (with any combination of AES/TKIP). Even reset the DAP-1522 to factory default and used WPS to connect them. The connection would work for maybe 10 seconds then nothing, even though the bridge LED would keep blinking. Swtiched to WPA using TKIP and ran WPS again, and it started working flawlessly with speeds significantly faster than my DIR-655 (streaming HD without stopping). For some reason WPA2 doesn`t work with the DAP-1522 using 645 but it worked using the 655.

There is also a bug where a connected device to the DAP-1522 will appear multiple times as a LAN computer. A device with the same MAC address will be assigned multiple IP`s. Also there is absolutely no mention of the DAP-1522 being connected to the router in the router setup page. Here is a screenshot, notice the same MAC address is assigned 3 different IP`s. One of those ip`s is actually for the DAP but the MAC address is for the device CONNECTED to the DAP(not the DAP itself). The MAC address of the DAP is f0:7d:68:15:b5:bd which is not listed there.

What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router/DAP.
What Firmware version is currently loaded on each device? Found on routers/DAP web page under status.

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?
If this modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems.

Some things to try:
Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual? You can find these under Status/Device Info/Wan section.
Turn off ALL QoS (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options. Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router. Setup/Networking
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.

Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP.

What wireless modes are you using?
Try single mode G or N, then try mixed G and N?
What security mode are you using? WEP, WPA or WPA2? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/Auto TPIK and AES.
What wireless devices do you have connected?
Any cordless house phones?
Any other WiFi routers in the area?
Turn off Short GI and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.
Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing.
Turn off all devices accept for one wired PC while testing.

Let us know.

DIR-645 is revision A1 using firmware version 1.01
DAP-1522 is version 1.31
Cable modem
Motorola Surfboard (no router/DHCP)

As part of my troubleshooting process, I had already disabled QOS on DAP and the router. Advanced DNS is disabled.
I have tried with both DNS relay on/off.
SPI is disabled

I have tried wireless modes G + N, as well as B + G + N.
I have tried both WPA and WPA2 with various combinations of TKIP/AES
I have a TV, bluray player, and a media extension box connected to the DAP-1522 along with a laptop and the printer over wireless

Serveral cordless phones but they run at 5.8 ghz range
There are about 7 different routers my laptop can pick up from different neighbours. I had to manually select a channel that the other routers weren't using to get the DAP to work properly.

Wired to the router has always worked. Only wireless that gives issues. The wireless works with other devices fine, but has problems with the DAP-1522.

I will experiment further to figure out why DAP doesn't work with WPA2.

Is the FW up to date on the DAP?

Are there modes you can set up on the DAP? Single mode G to test then maybe try single mode N?

Having other WiFi in the area can cause some issues. Only 7 though should be too bad unless there really close.

Keep us posted.

I can verify that I have the exact same issue.  The dir-645 fails to assign dhcp to devices wired to the dap-1522 (configured as bridge) under WPA2 mode.  This is causing a major issue for me since the connection (between the router and the bridge) via WPA is very weak.

Is there a known fix for this?

Follow the FW update sticky in this forum and try this:
ftp.dlink.com/Gateway/dir645/Beta/Firmware/DIR645A1_FW102B08_BETA.zip

Let us know if it works.
