Hello, I have a D-Link router DIR-655 and I am trying to go wireless with it. But, I have a wired computer (HP desktop) and the only way my desktop can connect to the internet is if there's an ethernet cable that is plugged in directly to the modem. There's no other option. I only have one ethernet outlet on the desktop and only one ethernet outlet on my modem. The modem is a Motorola SurfBoard. I even went as far as trying to use a USB wire (in addition to the ethernet wire) so I can connect the router to the modem. I plugged the USB wire from the internet outlet in the router to the USB outlet in the modem. Still no internet access on my new HP touchpad. I had also tried plugging in the USB wire from the USB port on the router to the USB port on the modem. Still no success. I should mention that I set-up my HP touchpad at my local library since I could not do that here. I had used their wi-fi connection to register the device. At this time, I cannot use my touchpad at home. Could someone assist me?

Your Desktop PC needs a PCI Wireless card adapter installed in to the desktop box or you can get a USB wireless adapter as well and that will plug into a open for free USB connector on the desktop. DLink has both of these options for your desktop PC. This will make your desktop wireless capable.

You can't connect your desktop via USB cable to the router. It doesn't work like that. You need to connect the desktop via wired LAN cable or use a wireless adapter option mentioned above.

If you need addition help on getting some local help with your PC. I would recommend finding a local computer person or company that can help you install and configure the wireless options so your desktop is set up and they can also help you get the router configured too.
