Hello

My ISP is through long range wireless Ethernet.  It requires a static IP address to work.  Obviously I cannot be on the Internet while trying to set up the D-Link.

How should I go about this?

I recommend you call the ISP and have them help you out on this.
if you connect to the routers web page, go to Setup/Internet/Manual and select the Connection Type. There is a drop down menu for setting up various types of connections, one being Static.

My ISP gave me the address which I already have.  And I have entered that into the static IP address of the router.

I guess I need to know what the IP settings should be for the computer?  Just set it on auto and then the router with the static and it should be a go?

Yes set the PC for automatic. It will get an IP from the router. If the Static IP address is filled in correctly on the router, then power down the wireless modem, router and PC. Power on the wireless modem and let it connect. Then power up the router and let it get going. While the router powers on, power ON the PC.

Well no it did not work.  My default gateway from my ISP ends with the last set of numbers as  just 1.

When I enter that into the router it says I need a three digit number between 192 and 240.

EDIT:

When I look under the routers status page with the Internet connection plugged in, it says connected.  When I unplug it it says disconnected immediately.

So apparently the router is seeing the Internet connection but I cannot access the Internet in my browsers.

Whats the IP address thats appearing for the WAN, Gateway and DNS. Is it a 192.168 number or a 2 digit number for WAN IP address? Just let me know if Gateway and DNS are being filled in with numbers.

Gateway is filled in, DNS is filled in, WAN I guess is the IP address?  It has three numbers in the last two positions.

then you should be getting internet thru the router now.
are you connecting wired or wireless right now to the router?

I'm connected through my other computer now.  Not through the router

When I connect the Internet to the router and the router to the computer and then run a troubleshoot Internet connections it say the DNS server is not responding.

Seems like the router is working.
I would make sure the PC networking properties is configured correctly. Networking properties should be set up for Auto Obtain for IP and DNS addressing.

Might have your ISP help you ensure that the modem and connection is set up. If you can get to the routers web page, and see the status page then you know thats working up to that point. I would have your ISP walk you thru some trouble shooting steps with the Modem and if they can help you with the PC networking.

MY ISP wants $50. 

Yes it appears the router is working.  When I run Windows troubleshooting is says the connection is not good.  This is bogus as the Internet light is flashing on the router and I can obviously connect to the routers web page.

I suspect some security settings?
