Strange Download Error.
« on: December 09, 2011, 06:24:02 PM »

Hi. I bought a 825, attached a PC to it's Gigabit LAN, and connected some mobile devices through it's Wireless N, some on 2.4Ghz and some on 5Ghz. For WAN/Internet, I connected the WAN port to a 2640T, nothing's connected to the 2640T except the 825 Router, and I disabled the Wireless AP from the 2640T and also disconnected the antenna. Setup is standard through the supplied software.

All seems well, including connection to internet but when I download any zip files, all of them are corrupted. Even downloads on Android, are corrupted and will not install. Downloads on PC would not unzip. Microsoft Live Sync would not sync at all. Sugarsync seems to be working fine.

When I connect the same PC to my office's network, everything's fine. Downloaded zip files can unzip properly, and Microsoft Live Sync can sync properly.

This is after I clear the cache to ensure all downloads are fresh.

I do not know what to do next, what information should I provide or what is wrong. So any help would be greatly appreciated. I think I am on 2.05 beta firmware that comes with the 825 router, and it has not been updated. Thanks in advance.

Do I like have to setup bridge mode?

The router wouldn't have any thing to do with files being corrupted I believe.

What browser are you using when your downloading? Try a different one like Opera or FF and test to see if your seeing the same thing.

What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on routers web page under status.

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?
If this modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems.

Some things to try:
Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual? You can find these under Status/Device Info/Wan section.
Turn off ALL QoS (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options. Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router. Setup/Networking
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP.

What wireless modes are you using?
Try single mode G or mixed G and N on 2.4Ghz and Single mode N on 5Ghz.
What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/Auto TPIK and AES.
Any cordless house phones?
Any other WiFi routers in the area? Use InSSIDer to find out.
Turn off Short GI and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing. 3rd party firewalls are not generally needed when using routers as they are effective on blocking malicious inbound traffic.
Turn off all devices accept for one wired PC while testing.

Maybe someone can review your router settings with you using teamviewer.

Thanks a million. Looks like it's a ISP problem. Which after a few days of such error, today it is gone.
