What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?
If this modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems.
Some things to try:
Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual? You can find these under Status/Device Info/Wan section.
Turn off ALL QoS (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options. Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router. Setup/Networking
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP.
The modem I use is a Linksys cable modem, model CM100. It's a stand-alone, no router built in. I'm using Charter for internet, so I don't think it is any blocking on their end.
- The DNS IP addresses were 0.0.0.0 and I did change them (even though the router does have a connection to the internet), no change in problem.
- QoS Disabled, no luck.
- Advanced DNS services was not turned on.
- DNS Relay was on.
- Setting up DHCP reserved IP addresses is not feasible due to the fact that I have multiple housemates with their own computers. However, my personal computer is using a static IP address which is reserved and there are no IP conflicts. My computer is capable of using the internet just fine.
- My computer has an IP address and connects to the computer.
- Firewall settings for TCP and UDP are now Endpoint Dependent. No change in problem.
The key issue here, it seems, is that something is preventing the router from accepting inbound connections on ports it doesn't already have opened up. I'm fairly certain there are no other routers on the network, though I suppose I'll need to check with one or two of my housemates to ensure they aren't trying to use another router as a switch and not setting the settings correctly. Still, I'm not sure if that would cause issues with port forwarding if my computer is plugged directly into the D-Link router I'm troubleshooting, which is connected directly to the cable modem.
So yeah, I'm still scratching my head!
