Problem accessing another 3G wireless network...
« on: December 14, 2011, 03:16:28 PM »

Hi,
i was trying to built a network at my home. My internet connection is provided by a wi-fi box attached to a 3G network provider, and each internet client in my home is connected to this device that shares internet connection beeing a wi-fi router itself. I bought a NAS (synology) and the DIR-655 to built a lan archive attached to my iMac. The problem is that as i attached the router via ethernet to the iMac i haven't been able no longer to connect to the internet via the 3G box, since it seems that the d-link router try to substitute my internet connection via that box. I thought i could point the D-link to my box to share it's connection but now i think this is not possible. Maybe i should have bought a gigabit switch instead of a router? If so which model? Or maybe this is only a config problem? Could someone help me please?
Thanks

Since you have a NAS now and using a different way of accessing the Internet, it's preferred to get a external network switch instead of a router as you don't need any routing abilities. You just need additional connections to xfer files and such. The switch will handle this well. Any model switch will work, just need to pick a switch with the appropriate amount of ports for your needs. They make them from 4 ports all the way up to 24 and beyond. I have 24 port Gb.

Thanks for your reply. What i needed was an Access Point. I purchased a TP-LINK wa701nd connecting the router's internet port via wi-fi to my wireless 3g modem. Everything is working fine now! Bye
