I have DNS323 and try to format Seagate Barracuda ST2000DM001 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s
using NDS-323 web UI , first 20-30% format in 30 mins and than it goes very slow and finally it hang at 44% .
I did upgrade firmware (1.09) with latest available on dlink as of now dec 14 2011.
please help anyone know how to resolve this issue.
thanks in advance.

I'm having this very same problem :(,  though I can't get it to get past about 25% or so of the format. I lose all connectivity to the box, only unplugging power and booting back up to let's me back into it.  Once back up it immediately prompts with the format wizard.

I've even let it run over night with no avail.

I'm in enough of a bind I may just have to buy a new device that can handle larger drives!  Hoping it doesn't get to that.

NEED HELP DESPERATELY!!!

Many, maybe even most, current 2TB drives require Firm Ware 1.10b7 to format the drives correctly.  I did not see this drive listed as a supported drive.  Trying 1.10b7 is probably the fastest potential solution.  Also, did you search the lists for ST2000DM001?

Yeah, this is the only post that mentions 'ST2000DM001'.

I've had this device for years, and I'm guessing I lucked out with the drives that I bought originally.  One of the originals was reported to have failed so I bought these drives before I knew only certain drives that are compatible with this device. A bit disappointed that only certain drives will work.

From reading around, I figured 1.10b7 would be my next option, but this hasn't changed a thing.  Oddly enough, I've gotten a few notification in my attempts the the right drive has failed even with the new ones.  I wonder if the device is failing?

First thing is a simple test.  Take out the right drive and check the socket assembly in the unit for garbage build up and is it firm when you try and wiggle it.

I have had one unit that had a dry joint that only appeared above a certain temperature.  We took the unit apart - nothing to loose, long past any guarantee and discovered the dry joint, applied a little solder and the unit has now been in service for the last 12 months without any more problems - even the drive came back without a problem.

OK, I'll check as you say.

I did some additional tests since my last post and found that I can't get either of these 2 drives to format in either bay, even just by themselves with only 1 drive plugged in.

This appears to be compatibility problem, not sure how to validate that 100% though.

Why are only certain drives compatible?  I certainly wouldn't have this problem in a PC/Mac device.

I see the only 2TB drive that is on the supported list (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=672.0) is the Western Digital Caviar Green WD20EADS 2TB 5400 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s drive.    I'd certainly hate to have to settle for the lower performing drive than the Seagate Barracuda ST2000DM001 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s .

My DNS-323, firmware 1.09 has been running very well with 2 Seagate ST32000641AS drive for several months now. This firmware is rated to run with these large 2T drives. Sorry to hear of problems with the ST2000DM001. Had these drives been available back then, I would have bought them instead of the 641AS.  One terabyte per platter should give great data throughput, as the specs show.

Ping!

Do the folks at D-Link read/respond on this forum?  I need to make a move here and either find another solution/hardware or get this working.

hey guys, did anyone ever get these drives (ST2000DM001) running with the 323 and version 1.10? I just picked up a 323 for dirt cheap and I'm looking for 2TB drives that are compatible and these are on sale at the shop for $140.

cheers.

So just to confirm, you were successful in using the ST2000DM001 (2TB SATA6G) drive with the DNS-323? Do you have just the single drive, or was it formatted in RAID (RAID 0 or 1?) Also, did you revert to firmware v1.09 after formatting? I would like to get two of these drives to use in a RAID 1 configuration. It would just be nice to know if someone has been successful using them in this manner.

Thanks

heartog, I would also like to get confirmation on ST2000DM001 compatibility with f/w v1.10b7. One of the earlier posts from 'tddrmrz' stated that even with v1.10b7 he couldn't get the ST2000DM001 to format properly but that was back at the end of 2011. Recent confirmation that it does in fact work would be great.
