Adding DAP-1525 to a DIR-655 Wireless Router
« on: December 17, 2011, 01:07:11 PM »

I recently bought the DAP-1525 wi-fi booster so that the wifi signal is stronger throughout the house.  The instructions that were provided is not very clear when it comes to configuring it with a DIR-655 wireless router.

Does anyone know how to add the DAP-1525 to a DIR-655?

Thanks.

MediaBridgeŽ Mode -
Connect media devices to your wireless network
Use MediaBridge mode if you want to connect Ethernet devices such as computers, game consoles, Network Storage (NAS) devices, and media players to your existing wireless network. With the DAP-1525 you can connect up to 4 devices to your wireless network. Note that wireless devices cannot connect to the DAP-1525 wirelessly when in MediaBridge mode.

With the DAP-1525 powered
off, slide the selector on the
back of the device to BRIDGE

Attach the power adapter to a
power outlet or surge protector.
If the Power LED is not lit, press
the Power button to turn on.

Press the WPS button on your existing wireless router
or access point. The WPS LED will start to blink.

For WPS Setup, press and hold the WPS
button on the DAP-1525 for about 1
second. The WPS LED will blink.

Once finished, you may connect up to 4 Ethernet (wired) devices to
the DAP-1525 and connect to your existing wireless network. Note
that wireless devices cannot connect to the DAP-1525 wirelessly when in
MediaBridge mode.

Installation Tip:
If you already have a WPS-ready wireless router or access point, you can use the WPS Setup to automatically configure and connect to your wireless network by simply pressing a button. If not, use Manual Setup.

Access Point Mode - Upgrade your wireless connection
Use Access Point mode if you want to connect wireless devices such as laptops, tablets, smart phones, and media players to your wired network (via router or switch). Use this mode to upgrade your wireless network to the latest wireless technology to boost performance and coverage.

With the DAP-1525 powered
off, slide the selector on the
back of the device to AP
2.4GHz or AP 5GHz.

Attach the power adapter to a
power outlet or surge protector.
If the Power LED is not lit, press
the Power button to turn on.

Press the WPS button on your existing wireless router
or access point.

For One Touch Configuration, press
and hold the WPS button on the
DAP-1525 for about 5 seconds.
The WPS LED will blink.

Once finished, you must connect an Ethernet cable from the DAP-1525 to
your LAN port on your router.

Installation Tip:
If you already have a WPS-ready wireless router or access point, you can use the One Touch AP Configuration to copy your existing wireless settings to the DAP-1525. You can then disable the wireless function in your existing wireless router or AP to avoid wireless interference. If you do not have an existing wireless router or AP with WPS, use Manual Setup.

So it looks like from above AP is the way to go.  I have those instructions as they came with the unit.  DIR-655 does not have a WPS button.  So what are the steps to do it from admin console?

Another question,  I ran out of ports on the router so I expanded one port with a hub, dlink DGS-1005G.  Can I plug the DAP-1525 into the hub or does it need to be directly put into the router.

Thanks.

As long as you can get wireless internet from DIR-655, you don't need to do anything on it.  You just need to configure the DAP-1525.

You can either connect the hub DGS-1005G to the DIR-655 LAN port or connect the hub to the DAP-1525 LAN port.

Okay the DIR-655 or the DAP-1525 is not working using WPS.  Any other suggestions?

Don't use WPS, and manually set up the DAP to use the same SSID and PW as the 655. Is there a wizard on the DAP that you can use to set up the DAP?

Okay did a manual setup.  Still no joy.

I've left the DAP-1525 as static IP but changed it to a range within the DIR-655 has.  I did a simple ping test within the DAP-1525 (i.e.google.com) it timed out, which leads me to believe this is not connecting to the internet.

Should I disable wireless on the DIR-655?

ya thats one test you can do...I would go back to default settings on the 1525 and set it up in AP mode. It should get an IP address from the 655 and get Internet correctly.

Maybe someone can review your router settings with you using teamviewer.
