Low Volume
« on: February 28, 2009, 08:23:49 AM »

Anybody else having issues with low volume when playing back videos?  It seems like the volume level output by the DSM-750 is very low.  For comparison, I also have a HP X280N extender, and playing the same content in that unit, the volume levels are fine.

I am using HDMI, if that makes any difference.  There also seems to be no way to adjust this.

I have noticed the same issue when using the D-Link media software that when playing a video back through the 750 the volume is lower than when I use the same D-Link media software with my Playstation 3. Weird I know. Both are about the same distance from the wireless access point (they are setting next to each other). The PS3 connects at 2.4 and the 750 connects at 5.0. Now that really doesnt make any sense. The 750 is able to connect at much higher speeds and should not experience any problems. But the PS3 outplays it sometimes......

I noticed the same. I use both HDMI and SPDIF for audio (I have 2 systems). Both seem to have the same issue. 3 Channel sound also seems to be a lot quieter than 5.1.

A "ripped" DVD seems to play about 10db quieter than the original DVD even if I use a digital copy of the audio stream (ie no conversion/processing). Both my DVD player and my DSM750 output digital (SPDIF) to my sound system, so naively I would expect the volume to be identical.
