CFIS: [172.19.X.XX] Closed the connection to service
« on: December 23, 2011, 05:59:00 AM »

I have a problem with copying large files to and from the DNS-320, just like this topic:
http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=38044.0

Whenever I try to copy 7,51 GB (for example) from my NAS to my harddrive, the CIFS service gets disconnected at the same time everytime. For me that is after copying about 5,42 GB and with (according to Windows) 3 minutes and 30 seconds, and 2,09 GB left.

It is not random, and I can reproduce this 100%...

My setup:
- Firmware 2.00 / 2.02b (Both the same problem)
- Windows 7 Ultimate x64
- 100 MBit LAN
- 2 simultaneous network shares
- 2x 1,5 TB Samsung mirrored harddrives

Might it be because of this?

Hi Raymond175,
I have resurrected this post in response to your recent post to another members issue.  Your frustration is clear but part of the reason you might not have received any possible suggestions for solution is that your procedures or parameters are not quite so clear.  Your possible attempts to provide your own solution are also absent.  I have actually downloaded a few 5GB to 7GB single files and tried transferring them back and forth between a 320 and a w7 pc and between two 320's.  I had no glitches or problems, similar to some others in related posts so I suspect that your issue is not a common one and unfortunately sometimes folks who do find solutions, don't always share the wealth.
Anyway, perhaps if you would add your exact procedure in attempting to transfer the large single files especially, it might help a bit.  For example, are you doing a copy and paste to to a mapped drive or via a network share.  If you have tried only one way, might try the other.
Another idea I would consider if possible would be to try another machine to try the transfers to help narrow down the source of the problem.  I hope one or more of these suggestions help you.  Good luck
One other little suggestion, providing links to other "problem" posts are generally not helpful as they just add to the confusion and lack of clarity.

1. It happens no matter if I copy from or to a mapped drive or network share.
2. It only happens on my 64-bit Windows 7 Ultimate computer.
3. It happens no matter if oplocks is enabled or disabled.
4. The mapped drive or network share are never disconnected when this problem occurs.

I don't have this problem on my two 32-bit Windows 7 Ultimate laptops and my Windows XP computer.

Hi again,
It took me a little while to get everything set, but I have transfered 2 files, total 12GB, and one folder with 10 files average 2GB each, back and forth between a w7 64bit machine and a 320, without any problems at all.  I did this via the network share and a mapped drive, just to be sure.  I am at a bit of a loss, not being able to duplicate your problem.  I have to wonder if there is something off in your w7 machine, or the hardware between your w7 machine and the 320.  I would guess by now you have checked that the network name is the same on all computers and devices, so I would be looking at the router / switch connection between the 2 devices.  You only mention the connection is via LAN, not exactly what the connection is.  I have run into flakey switches and routers for that matter.  The only thing I can suggest is to double check your network settings and try to bypass perhaps a switch, or make both connections to the same switch, or to your router ports if possible.  Hopefully, you will be able to find something this way.  Otherwise, good luck.

both the computer and the NAS are directly connected to a Belkin Wireless Router via 100 Mbit cables. No other hardware between. The Windows XP computer I talked about was connected using the same cables (I switched computers), so the only real difference is the hardware in the computers...

Do you know if there could be any network card settings that could cause this? In the Windows 7 computer there is a 1000 Mbit network card while in the Windows XP computer there was a 100 Mbit netword card. But at all times they were connected to the router using the same 100 Mbit network cable.

Hi Raymond,
Your setup is completely different then I had envisioned and I assumed you had multiple computers active on the network at the same time.  The most common network cables out there are Category 5e and Category 6 both are capable of 100Mb and 1000Mb speeds to my understanding.  If you have an older Category 5 cable, it might slow down your network transfers, but even then, I don't think it would cause your problem.  Regarding the network card settings, I would imagine there are some settings you could mess with via the device manager / properties that could screw up things, but I never heard of anyone getting into trouble with the default settings.  Assuming you did not try to change anything, I doubt that this would be the problem.  I keep wondering what computer you used to set up the NAS and what name you used on the NAS verses the W7 computer you are having trouble with.  Are you sure that they are the same name?
PS. If you did make some changes to the NIC, and can't remember what you did, just go in and remove it via device manager and then reboot.  It should reinstall with the defaults settings.  Otherwise, I am still scratching my head.  Good luck.

Network setup:
- CopperJet 1616 2-P Modem
- Belkin N150 Ehanced Wireless Router
- Asus laptop (WLAN)
- Other laptop (WLAN)
- D-Link DNS-320 NAS (LAN)
- Skype phone (LAN)
- Windows 7 x64 computer (LAN)
- iPad (WLAN)

The Windows 7 x64 computer replaced the Windows XP x86 computer, so it is connected using the same LAN cable.

The NAS has been setup via the Asus laptop and has the name "NAS". I always used \\NAS and http://NAS/ to connect to it.

You might want to try uninstalling and reinstalling the NIC drivers on your Windows 7 PC. Go to the NIC manufacturer's website and download the latest driver package to your PC, uninstall the current driver set, and install the new one.

I recently encountered a different issue where my 32b Windows 7 PC suddenly couldn't ping or communicate with one of my DNS-343s, yet the same PC could see and communicate with every other device on the network. Meanwhile other PCs on the same network had no issue whatsoever. Only after uninstalling/reinstalling the NIC drivers was the problem resolved. Apparently, the NIC driver settings were either changed by an application or were corrupted.

Raymond,
I second what JavaLawyer said about checking for updated drivers for your nic but if you cannot find any, you might try what I suggested to delete and let windows reinstall the drivers.  Other than that, I am not sure I made myself clear about making sure each device has the same network "name".  Each computer and device, ie, NAS uses a specific network name.  The various windows default network names have changed with different versions of windows, MSHOME, HOMEGROUP, WORKGROUP, are the most common examples.  When you have a mixed network, of XP and W7 computers and you add them they will want to keep there default network names.  So unless you change / make sure all of them are set to the same network name, you will have strange behavior, usually one or more computers / devices can't see one another or "disappear".  I never experienced a problem like this with your specific issue, but when you are looking for unusual network problems it is good to check.  Below are some directions.  Worth a check.

To find or change the workgroup name on a computer running Windows XP

Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.

In System Properties, click the Computer Name tab to see the workgroup name. To change the name, click Change, type the new name in Computer name, and then click OK.

To find the workgroup name on a computer running Windows Vista or Windows 7

Open System by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, right-clicking Computer, and then clicking Properties.

The workgroup name is displayed under Computer name, domain, and workgroup settings.

To change the workgroup name on a computer running Windows Vista or Windows 7

Open System by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, right-clicking Computer, and then clicking Properties.

Under Computer name, domain, and workgroup settings, click Change settings.

In System Properties, on the Computer Name tab, click Change.

In Computer Name/Domain Changes, in Workgroup, type the name of the workgroup you want to use, and then click OK. You will be prompted to restart your computer.

I had changed the network/workgroup name to be the same as all the other devices, but that didn't help. I do need to check my NIC device drivers, but I did not have any time to do that yet :(
