I cannot access the NAS in any way.  Sometimes my computers see it, sometimes they don't, but none of them can access it, regardless.  I have two Sonicview media streaming boxes that cannot utilize the NAS, either.  Sometimes they can see content on the NAS, but only through the PNP, not as a directory.  The computers cannot access anything.  I cannot even access the NAS through a browser using the default IP.  I have shut down everything by disconnecting power to my routers, computers and the NAS and restarted and this does not work.  I have taken the drives out and put them back in.

All I get is the power light blinking, left drive light blinking and sometimes the network light blinking, but it does not work.  I get no amber lights.

What options do I have?  Can I reset the unit without accessing it through a browser?  I don't know what firmware version I am on, as I cannot access the unit, but I am sure it is the latest.

If I do reset the box, will it still read my drives?  I am running two 2TB drives in mirrored mode.

If I get a newer enclosure, can I simply put these drives in and they will run, will by data be lost, or do I have some preparation do to for another enclosure or device to get access the data on the drives?

Please help!  I have EVERYTHING on these drives...

I have a friend, who likes to ask, at moments like this - "now tell me, do you believe in back-up?"

The power light continuing to blink is an indicator that the unit is, for some reason, not completing the boot process, coupled with a drive light also flashing, is an indication that the drive may not be coming to a "ready" state, which will in turn either prevent the NAS from completing the boot process, or make it take significantly longer - depending on the firmware.  The blinking network light just indicates activity on the network, so it can be ignored.

You can reset the unit using a "pin hole" switch on the back panel - it should still read your drives after it has been reset, and swapping the drives across to a new unit (or one that has been reset) should not cause any loss of data.

Please note the use of the word should - this is how the unit is designed to work - there are no guarantees.

Another possible option - you can connect the drive(s) to a PC running either linux, or Windows with an appropriate file system driver and get access to the data that way - since you are running a mirrored configuration, you can use either drive.

What I would try if I were you is removing the left drive (because that's the one with the flashing light) and powering the unit up - if the problem is related to that drive, the unit should boot and give you access to the data.

RAID1 is for disk redundancy - NOT data backup - don't confuse the two.
