The 825 is slow to bring up it's settings pages.
« on: December 26, 2011, 10:07:34 AM »

OK I got this router Christmas day. I'm using a Dell computer CPU i7 8 gig of ram. It is wired in to the router. Why does it take so long to log into the router and bring up the different pages in the settings. I have never seen a router take so long. I have not updated the firmware version 2.02NA. I have not upgraded it yet. oh I have a cable connection. When I surf the web the pages come-up fast.

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?
If this modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems.

Some things to try:
Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual? You can find these under Status/Device Info/Wan section.
Turn off ALL QoS (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options. Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router. Setup/Networking
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP.

well I thought I said Comcast Cable. I'm on a stand alone cable modem Model SMCD3GNV it did have a router and wirelees build in but I had comcast bridge it they turn off the router and wireless on it. I got it to where the setup page comes up fast now. I updated the firmware to 2.05 that help. went back in and set it up again. Now the only problem I'm have is the port forwarding. I run a camfrog sever software and it needs port TCP 6005 open and UDP ports 5000-15000 open. I went in and done that but does not work. I even try putting the computer that runs it into DMZ zone still does not work and yes I have the router set to where it give that computer the same 192 addrest everytime.

I was able to get the port forwarding on a linksys E3000 with no problem. Why is the 825 giving me fits?

Might be configuration issue with port forwarding.

Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual? You can find these under Status/Device Info/Wan section.

I think I will call Dink support and see if port forwarding working. If not I guess I will return it. I have never had a problem doing this on a router and I have been doing this for over 10 years now.

Maybe someone can review your router settings with you using teamviewer.

I just got this router and it is indeed very slow to bring up its pages on the 2.02 FW.  I have the DIR-655 and it's super fast.  After upgrading the FW to 2.03->2.05->2.06, it did improve just so you know.  However, you may want to get prepared for the possibility of NOT being able to even access the UI at some point after you upgrade the firmware.  I'm in the process of trying to resolve that issue, but if you upgrade, the UI response will definitely improve.

Note that the 825 does have a very annoying "waiting" pages after many if not all commits that force you to sit for x number of seconds until you can continue on that the 655 did not.  Not sure why the 825 software can't just commit immediately like the 655, but I don't know the internal workings...

I don't this is has to deal with port forwarding as his has resolved this by using Virtual Server along with Port Forwarding.

All DIR routers have the annoying wait time when you Save the settings. I wish they designed them like the DGL series, they have a REBOOT LATER button. LOL.

One thing I have learned with the DIR series, you can copy the URL of the page your working with, when you save the setting and see the 20sec time delay, just paste the URL address you copied in the browser and it will go back to the page your working on and not have to wait. This only works when you see the 20sec delay.

Well I was talking to a guy in a chat room that has had a 825 for sometime. He told me that with the 2.02 firmware on IE8 would work OK. But when he went to IE9 it was real slow to come up and the update in firmware fix it. I did the update after spending a hour trying to configure it waiting on the pages to come up. I have not had any problems getting any page to come up now. Plus after figuring out the port forwarding it's working great no drops on wireless or the internet.  ;D ;D

Yeah, I forgot to mention that I do use "compatibility" mode in IE9.  Sorry about that.  I'm glad you got it all sorted out. :)
