The DIR-657 doesn't provide enough throughput at range to stream 1080 HD content reliably throughout my home.  I just bought my husband a Roku to stream netflix to our Pioneer Elite and it works alright, and it struggled initially.  Moving it around helped a bit, but even with our ipads, I can sit on the couch in the family and get adequate coverage, but my husband in the chair 5 feet away gets one bar.

I was just reading about the DLink Wi-Fi Booster DAP-1525 and wondering if I can add that to the 657 for better results.

I'm not highly technical, so just looking for whatever help I can get.

What wireless modes are you using?
Try single mode N?
What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES.

Be aware that it's preferred to stream most HD content over a wired connection. Specially BD data. the single mode N @ 2.4Ghz just can't handle it. Netflix and internet streaming should be good though. I do prefer wired over wireless. My 2 cents.

Thanks.  when I selected 802.11n only I got a warning that TKIP isn't supported.  I'm not sure what that means to me.

Ya you need to set the Cipher type to AES only when using N only mode.

will that change do anything to our wireless connection or limit it in some way?

I also did speak with tech support at dlink and they indicated that the DAP-1525 will create another network and that I would be better off with the DAP 1360 repeater.

I tried changing the channel, but that didn't make any perceivable difference.

How far is the router away from the devices?

Only if your devices don't support AES then maybe. Other then that AES is just a security measure.
