Hi new router user here.  I've managed to set up our new 645 and connect the Wii, Xbox, iPods and my cell phone.  However, I've encountered numerous problems with the DS Lites.  After a lot of research I discovered that the DS Lite doesn't support WPA so I've had to switch to WEP.  I also turned on MAC filtering to supposedly increase security.  However the DS Lite still doesn't work.  First I got error 52000 (Google 'nintendo support 52000') and to fix that I had to manually set up a lot of info in teh DS that I didn't really understand.  Then I got error 52100 which suggests it's a transmission rate problem and that I should set the router TX rate to '2'.   However, the screenshot they show is not for the 645 and the only field I could find in the setup tool for TX rate had only one option which was 'Best (automatic)'.  The second option involved keying a lot more info manually into the DS (changing IP address etc) and I'm hoping there is a better solution than that.  I've learned a lot in a short time but I don't really want to be changing too many settings on the DS's. Anyone have any ideas?  Thanks!

Ya for any Nintendo devices, we've noticed that they use WEP security only. Really wish they would get up to date and use WPA. Mac filtering isn't really needed unless your in a high populated area or have hackers trying to get in. I don't use it however it's there if you really need it.

I would recommend this, if you need to have the Nintendo's online, I would get you a cheap AP WiFi device to connect to the 645. Leave the 645 in WPA modes for your other devices and set up the 2ndary AP for WEP for the Nintendos. Having to switch security modes back and forth is a pain I know. Dlink has a DAP-1360, 1522. Could even get a cheap DIR-601 or 615 router and turn them from a router into an AP.

This is an issue with Nintendo and not sure why they are not going with WPA so your constrained by those devices and what they support.

I figured I would have to flip back and forth between WEP and WPA.  I guess my primary concern is that I can't get the WEP connection to work at all what with all the Nintendo error codes I keep getting and all the background settings I'm supposed to be changing (creating new IP for the DS Lite etc).  Will the WEP AP solution you suggest have a better chance at success?  Is the 645 too 'new' or technical' or whatever term you might choose for the DS Lites and therefore something basic like a 601 would work better?

It's possible that the 645 is too new or the DS units might need some sort of update. Not sure if they have any such thing.

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?
If this modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems.

Some things to try:
Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual? You can find these under Status/Device Info/Wan section.
Turn off ALL QoS (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options. Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router. Setup/Networking
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP.

What wireless modes are you using?
Try single mode B or G or mixed B and G?

I suppose leaving the security off WiFi, the DS won't connect? Try WEP mode once more after changing the wifi mode to B or Mixed B and G.


Yes I think that getting a cheap router or and DAP like a 1360 or 1522 might be a good solution for the DS units. That will help you maintain WEP for the DS units while the host 645 router can maintain your WPA settings.
