I want to buy two of these to upgrade the DCS-2121 that have served me well recording 24/7 to a NAS the last couple of years.
The thing is i can't see any reviews, online demos, tests or footage from this cam. I already contacted DLinK but they haven't answered.

D-Link Full HD "Cube" DCS-2230 owners:
Would you please share with us some full HD captures, a 720p recorded clip, day, night (usage of IR), maybe some movement? Is it compatible with DViewcam? Any contribution will be much appreciated!! You could become the first one to review it!!
Did you test it for 24/7 recording? I also heard a guy said the camera skipped minutes of recording while set to continuous recording. If this happened then the camera would be a waste of money!

I'm looking for the same information too.
The picture quality of the DCS932L is not enough to be used for security. How is the quality of the DCS 2230 with low light, at night?

Wow!! Amazing quality ! Thanks casey!
Of course it looks a bit grainy, but that's because of the darkness, the integrated IR works actually pretty good. The H264 is doing an outstanding job there!
Movement is captured very well, even for a 7 fps recording. Can't wait to see a daylight clip.
You know, I used different players (WMP - MP Classic - VLC) but although it apparently has a PCM audio track I can't hear anything from any of the clips.

If you want to know what's going on, the 932L is OK at day and night.
But for security purpose you may need a clear picture of the face of the person trying to get in your home.
You will get it with the 2230 at daytime.
You may get it with the 2230 at night time.
You won't get it with the 932L at daytime and night time (you can just recognize somebody you know through a global shape, if moving very very slowly or still).
In addition, the 2230 stay much longer in daytime mode than the 932L and the field of view is larger (important for a room).
Then if you install like 4 cams and forget to stop the motion detection through E-mail when at home, the number of mails being sent is so high that you E mail account is rejected for few hours (at least with my provider in Paris).

Mine are inside.
I got false alarms due to light change but it's not a big deal.
The big issue is that you can't easily stop the motion detection when you're at home. Then an E mail is sent everytime you are detected. Then if you stay 2 hrs next to a cam, it will send mails for 2hrs.
In addition if you have 5 cams you get 5 times the amount of E mail and your provider see it coming from the same sender and block the 5 cams.
With my old Linksys cam I got 6 pics by mail and could stop the motion detection for a few minutes: the next message would be 5 mn later not 10 seconds.
With the 932L you have 6 pics but can't ask the detection to wait for the next one.
With the 2230 you have 2 pics and can ask the detection to wait up to 100 seconds. But in case of intrusion, 2 pics are not enough to ensure to get a face, the you can't ask to wait.
I wonder if somebody from D Link tried to test any of their cams for burglar detection? As they security cams or gadgets?
The best would be a remote with a code to easy activate/desactivate your cams when you leave or come back. A remote linked to the alarm system activation would be even better.

The reason you didn't hear anything is that I hadn't pressed the "Listen" button when I recorded it. Here is a clip from this morning, with color and sound. Again, there is not much sound or movement out there. Again, this is at 1920x1080:

I don't actually have a profile set up for 1920x1080, so these clips were recorded by pressing the "record" button on Live View. Below is a clip that was triggered by PIR, recorded as 640x360 a few days ago. I find this resolution quite adequate to capture faces at these distances (people walking through the front gate). The sound and video are not quite in sync -- the sound runs ahead. I haven't tried adjusting any of the bandwidth controls.

Casey, have you checked these megaupload.com links today? I only see FBI Anti-piracy notice saying that the domain has been seized. Am I the only one seeing that message?

No, it was all over the paper a couple of days ago: they indicted the top executives of Megaupload and arrested several of them (Kim Dotcom is being held without bail) in New Zealand, and they shut down the site. As you probably know, lots of movies were also being hosted at that site.

I missed the news then. But now I also missed your pics there. Can you perhaps upload them again to tinypic. com and give us the links there? I live, BTW, just across the lake from you, on the Eastside.

Just bought 3 DCS-2230s to monitor the ground floor of a building. Love the image quality, but I'm having a hard time getting motion detection to work. I need to upload clips to an FTP server. The only way I can get any info into the Event section of Setup is to use the wizard. Trying to create entries manually doesn't work, after hitting "Save" the lists in the Events page are always all blank. Even when I use the wizard, the entries it creates look right but nothing ever gets uploaded to the FTP server.

Anyone got any ideas???

I've had that issue as well. Using Firefox (even though Live Video doesn't work) will let you set up your events.
