Port Forwarding Error.
« on: January 05, 2012, 12:47:09 PM »

Hi,
I've forwarded certain ports for my applications in my DIR-615 router, but when I check, none of the ports are open.

Following are some screenshots.

The LAN IP is entered properly as you can see.

I've also added ports 21 and 80 in the Virtual Server option.

DEFAULT QUESTIONS:

Is the router behind any modem?
Yes, the DIR-615 is behind a simple ADSL modem. No ports are blocked there.

Is your IP Static or Dynamic?
Its Dynamic.

What is your ISP type?
I am using BSNL, which is an Indian ISP. It uses PPPoE connection type, which requires a username and password. It is properly working.

What does my router WAN IP address point to?
I've checked, it points to my dynamic internet IP address.

Is QoS disabled?
Yes. http://screensnapr.com/e/VNFXEG.png

Are DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router added?
Yes. http://screensnapr.com/v/QpXZEq.png

What is your current Firewall settings?

Now, I restart my modem and my router after saving all settings. When I check for the forwarded ports, these are my results:

Kindly tell me what I can do to resolve this, thanks.
Any help is much appreciated. :)

What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?
If this modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems.

You want to add the application ports to Virtual Server as well for that application your using.

Hi mate, thanks for your reply. I've answered the questions.

What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
The ISP Modem is UT-Starcom UT-300R2. Its a stand alone thing. When I remove my router (the DIR-615), all ports are open, and working perfectly.

What ISP Modem make and model do you have?
The model number is UT-300R2.

If this modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems.
No the modem does not have a built in router. ;)

Something noteworthy:
Before I disabled QoS, port 80 was blocked along with the other ports.
When QoS is disabled, only port 80 is open. All others are closed. :|

So are the ports open if you disable QoS?

Only and only port 80. None of the other ports are open.
I've added Application Rules and Virtual Server rules for HTTP (Port 80), FTP (Port 21), and BitTorrent (6881-6889).

Well usually port 80 doesn't need to be forwarded at all as it's the main port along with 88 that connect to the internet.

Have you tried turning off FireWall and test?
Do you have any 3rd party security installed on the PC your testing with?

Okay, thanks for that piece of info. ;)

Do you have any 3rd party security installed on the PC your testing with?
I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate with no antivirus whatsoever.

Have you tried turning off FireWall and test?
Windows Defender and Windows Firewall is turned on as default. Should I disable it and try again?
Would it be safe to do so?

Yes disable the firewall on the router and test. You'll be fine.

I would follow this. You don't need to forward port 80 so you can remove this rule. You need to add those 2 applications you listed in Port Forward and also put them into Virtual server I believe.
http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Dlink/DIR-615/BitTorrent.htm
Also is the PC's IP address reserved on the router?
Ensure DNS relay is enabled?
Also is uPnP enabled under Advanced/Networking?
