iPhone 4S connectivity issues
« on: January 13, 2012, 07:03:26 PM »

Using 1.22NA.

I have recently had issues with my iPhone 4S randomly dropping an internet connection to my 4500. I am assuming by the log that the iPhone connects to the router every time I open the phone to use it, so it must not be connecting sometimes. The problem is that it won't correct itself unless I reboot the phone, which is obviously very annoying. Any suggestions on what might help me avoid having to do that?

I also keep on getting the following message over and over again:

UPnP renew entry 255.255.255.255 <-> **.***.***.***:64125 <-> 192.168.0.199:64125 UDP timeout:0 'Teredo'

I don't believe this is related to the iPhone after careful inspection, but the port 64125 is used by the main svhost used on the computer that controls a ton of processes (netsvcs). Does anyone know why I am getting this timeout over and over again?

Thanks.

What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?
If this modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems.
If DSL and using PPPoE option on the router, ensure that the ALWAYS ON option is selected, and not the On Demand option.

Some things to try:
Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual? You can find these under Status/Device Info/Wan section.
Turn off ALL QoS (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options. Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router. Setup/Networking
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.

Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP.

What wireless modes are you using?
Try single mode G or mixed G and N?
What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES only however some devices don't support AES. The iPhone does.

What wireless devices do you have connected?
Any cordless house phones?
Any other WiFi routers in the area? Use InSSIDer to find out.
Turn off Short GI and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing. 3rd party firewalls are not generally needed when using routers as they are effective on blocking malicious inbound traffic.

Great post, Furry! Thanks for taking the time.

A1 hardware version. Optimum Online Cable. I have an ARRIS TM802 standalone.

I do everything that you stated, except I had GameFuel on. Turned it off. Could that be a problem?

I use G only wireless, because I get massive errors in my log when N is involved.

I will do more playing around with security, because I have many devices (some older) attached to the router. I am using WPA-personal, but using the AUTO choice. What kind of devices don't support AES? We have desktops, laptops, iPhones, Androids, Nooks, new Xbox 360, a Wii, a new Epson printer, and even a Withings wi-fi weight scale (lol) in the house.

No cordless phones. I live in a townhome, so plenty of WiFi routers around. Why would that be an issue?

Short GI and EWP off.

The only security I have is MSE and the basic Windows 7 Firewall.

The logs will show some form of errors specially on wireless. Just the way that is.
If gamefuel was ON, was it configured for anything? It should interfere with any wireless devices unless you included them in the rules.
I recommend reading the gamefuel sticky for XBL in this forum for that. It works well for XBL.

You should be able to run Mixed G and N or single mode N and AES only for XBOX and iPhones. You'll need to check with your devices Mfr on what they support. This will determine what you need to setup on the router for security. You might have to run auto mixed TPIK and AES or try TPIK only while on mixed G and N. N only, you can only use AES. Most of my devices here are AES supporting so they run well. I do have an Airport Extreme that handles my G mode items. I have an 1st Gen iphone still on the network.

I recommend running xbox on wired connections for gaming.
