Restoring gateway settings
« on: January 16, 2012, 02:49:21 PM »

Cannot restore gateway settings. Old router died and I bought a new one and cannot "restore" the old router settings to the new one. The old settings were saved in a "gateway_settings.gws" file but when I save from the new router I get a "config.bin" file. I get the odd admonishment "The restored configuration file has been uploaded in failure." when I try the restore. This seems to be someone's way of saying it did not work.

Old router: DIR-655 from late 2007, Version A2, firmware 1.02

New router: DER-655/RE, Version B1, firmware 2.00NA (firmware check says this is the latest version)

trying to save the time of setting up six devices again, any help would be appreciated

Hi maz,

Sorry on two fronts. There is a newer firmware version for the Version B1 model.

 Firmware 2.03NA 7/07/2011

Also you can't upload the gateway_settings.gws from the old Router.

Two different Routers. Version B1 can handle the newer IPV6 Protocol. A2 Version could not.

You need to do it manually.

Thought so on the restore. pooh

The firmware statement I made is from when I ask the router to check for firmware updates it says the 2.00NA is the latest. I did see that the newer one existed, my router does not know that it exists it seems.
Do I gain anything if I upgrade to the latest firmware?

Hi maz,

Don't know. Still have A3 version working just fine.

"Revision Info: ¤ Address an issue with some Sony TV’s connecting to the router in n mode with security enabled.
¤ AdvanceDNS default enable.
¤ TOOLS DDNS add IPv6 DDNS.
¤ Support DNSSL (RFC6106).
¤ Support D-Link Router IPv6 Specification v1.16R.
¤ Add status IPv6 routing table.  "

Thanks, thecreator, I went ahead and updated the firmware to 2.03NA (nothing to lose at this point) but downloaded the earlier versions just in case. The router now says 2.03 and that it is the latest, must be easily pleased. Any firmware seems to be OK with it.

pretty much end of thread

Enjoy.

Some things to try:
Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual? You can find these under Status/Device Info/Wan section.
Turn off ALL QoS (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options. Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router. Setup/Networking
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP.
Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking.

Try single mode G or mixed G and N?
Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/Auto TPIK and AES.
Any other WiFi routers in the area? Use InSSIDer to find out.
Turn off Short GI and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.
