DIR-655 won't respond after hard factory reset
« on: January 18, 2012, 05:37:08 PM »

I have a DIR-655 (HW rev A2) that has worked mostly fine for a long time.  Today I decided to do a firmware upgrade, and in preparation I backed up my custom config settings and did a hard reset via the factory reset button on the back of the unit.

Since then, the unit itself has been inaccessible from my computer.  If I connect the DIR-655 and a PC with a network cable, the appropriate light goes on on the front of the router, but the client does not lease an IP address from the router and I can't access the router home page at 192.168.0.1.

I have tried the reset button again and also power-cycled multiple times, and I have tried connecting from multiple computers, all with the same unsuccessful results.  Any suggestions for how to "un-brick" the device?

Thanks.

Try the Recovery process listed in the FW update sticky. I would go back to the version of FW you had on it before you tried to upgrade.

Thanks very much for the prompt response.  I followed the detailed steps three times but the router's power light comes on as solid blue (as usual), not amber or flashing.  I held it in for about 15 seconds; was that long enough?

Also, just to clarify, this problem occurred prior to the firmware upgrade.  I was still running 1.32NA, as I have been for a while.

Thanks.  I tried this too, but no matter how long (up to a two minutes) I hold in the reset button and how many times I press it, the power light seems to stay on.

Is this supposed to work with Rev. A2 hardware?

I would get the router into RMA. Seems like the router wont recover from this condition and your wasting efforts to get it going again.
