problem with streaming wireless
« on: January 22, 2012, 08:14:01 AM »

hi i have a readynas duo connected by cable to my dir 825,and i want to stream movies from the nas to my zbox, wich has W7 32bit and a sitecom dual N usb adapter, but it seems my wireless speed is to slow for mkv  and m2ts(playback stutters),when i copy a file from the nas to my zbox i get 7,60MB using a 1,33gb file, when i copy the same file from the zbox to the nas speed is a little better arround 8.20MB.all my devices are in the same room.

i have fw 2.05EU in my dir825 B1
i use 2,4GHz and 5Ghz both set to wpa personal/wpa2 only AES,channel width auto 20/40
the 2,4GHz is set to mixed n and g (my gf has a iphone 3gs  :-\)
the 5Ghz is set to N only
wifi protected setup is disabled
firewall spi enabled
end point independent
i have WMM and short GUI enabled for 2,4 and 5 GHz
Qos disabled
traffic shaping enabled

i hope someone can help me out
thanks in advance evoxx

I've tried to get raw blu ray files to play over 2.4Ghz and the data is just so large that the pipe and handing of the files is just too much for large data files especially streaming. I recommend running wired for large file streaming. I have a boxee box thats connected to my 7 server that has all the files on it and runs well wired. Not much you can do. I haven't been able to test 5Ghz to see if that handles any better. It might if you run single mode n only on 5Ghz. You could try testing WMM OFF as thats QoS for wireless. Your best bet for any large file streaming is wired though.

Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router. Setup/Networking
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.

Any cordless house phones?
Any other WiFi routers in the area? Use InSSIDer to find out.
Turn off Short GI, WLAN Partition or Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

i turned of short gui and setup reserved ip addresses for all devices,it looks like it improved speed a tittle more, only thing i noticed is when i check status one of the devices ip adres is 0.0.0.0 ??
in setup network settings it is listed with an ip

i just wanna say that streaming mkv wireless to my zbox is going very well now,it seemed one of the codecs installed on the zbox made the playback stutter a little, after reinstalling the codec pack playback is flawless.

Glad it was a codec and not the router. Enjoy.
