I'm sure this has been covered before, I just can't find it. I bought a DIR-655 (not sure what rev I have)router and noticed my NAT had changed from open to strict.shen playing Modern Warfare 3 on the Wii. I didn't have that problem with the DIR-615 I replaced. I tried to set it up in the DMZ and I tried the port forwarding and neither of them worked. I am not ruling out operator error. I've tried to piece together the information from several different forums and websites but all are slightly different. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on routers web page under status.

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?
If this modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems.
To tell if the modem is bridged or not, look at the routers web page, Status/Device Info/Wan Section, if there is a 192.168.0.# address in the WAN IP address field, then the modem is not bridged.

Some things to try:
Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual? You can find these under Status/Device Info/Wan section.
Turn off ALL QoS (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options. Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall.
Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking.

Review the following that gives port information. If your Wii is the only console then use port forwarding, if you have multiple consoles then use QoS.
You can review the Gaming and QoS for XBL for samples on how to setup QoS. I works well. You can even use it for one console if you like.

I was able to get it to change from strict to moderate. I set the IP address for the Wii and put that in the DMZ. I disabled QoS. I rebooted the router and Wii after the changes. I do have another question. When I set the Wii's IP address I followed the instructions on Nintendo website. They told you how to find the DNS on your computer. I entered that in the Wii. Another tutorial said you could use public DNS and said put 008.008.008.008 in primary and 008.008.004.004 in secondary. Do you think this is worth trying?

Need to put the Wii either in Port forwarding or set up a QoS rule, would be preferred. Using ISP DNS is also preferred and will work. You can use alternative DNS though. All this needs to be done on the router and the Wii set up for Automatic network detection. This this is done, NAT should open up.
