For Big Brains Only
« on: February 13, 2012, 03:23:59 PM »

I couldn't think of a title so here goes:

I have 5 computers on the network. I have 2 computers with Windows 7 and 1 Vista on Ethernet. 2 computers wireless. One of the wirelesses (Vista laptop) can get on the Internet with Ethernet and can also get on wireless on someone else’s wireless network but not my wireless network but my XP wireless laptop can get on. The router works, all the computers work, Ethernet and wireless works. What could be the problem?

Do you have the Vista pc associated and connecting to the SSID on the router?
Have you changed the Default SSID from dlink to something else. Might be other dlink routers that there owners haven't changed the SSID to something else.
Make sure the drivers for the wireless adapter on the Vista PC has up to date drivers. Some wireless adapters have additional options for use in there networking properties.

What wireless modes are you using?
Try single mode G or mixed G and N?
What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/Auto TPIK and AES.
Turn off Short GI, WLAN Partiton and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

The laptop connects to the network with no security and I've set the router at WPA MODE: Auto (WPA or WPA2) Cipher Type: TKIP or AES so now I have to play with the security setting or if you can give me any advice I would imprecate.

That mode and option should work. Your laptop should see the SSID you gave and when you select it, it should present you with a password window so that you can enter in the password you gave. You did enter in a password to use on the router right?

Maybe someone can review your router settings with you using teamviewer.
