To answer a few of those questions...(I'm at work at the moment so this is the stuff I know)
ISP is O2 - DSL 15-17Mb
Linksys AM200 Modem in full bridged mode. The WAN IP my 855 gets is the public IP assigned to me by O2 - 88.188.xxx.xxx
Router firmware is 1.20
Internal network 192.168.0.xxx DHCP enabled, all devices connecting are 'Auto', no static addresses. I don't however, have any reserved addresses with the exception of the wireless printer. (so that's something to look at).
I will take a look at the rest of the stuff when I'm at home.
However, without wanting to sound rude because I'm not trying to be...I was after an explanantion as to why the touted fix of disabling DNS relay should be the fix for the router locking up, showing as offline and dropping connected devices? (When it does this my modem is still connected I hasten to add and has been perfectly happy hooked up to a DIR-655 without issues, so it's not a line problem).
I appreciate the pointers you have given me but as an IT engineer myself (admittedly, not a D-Link router expert), there seems to be a lot of things to change to see if it solves a single problem. A single problem that a lot of people appear to have and, in my humble opinion, shouldn't have to jump through hoops to apply a 'workaround' to, if at all. They aren't the normal settings that you would expect to change on a router to stop it from dropping out...in fact, out of the box, I would not expect to have to alter anything to stop a router crashing..only alter settings to make it visible on a network etc. I never had this problem with my 655, it stayed up for...well, until I turned it off.
I'm not ungrateful for the advice and yes, I came here to ask so it is up to me to follow advice but it does seem like a lot of changes. I wouldn't expect to buy a car and then have to change the way it set up at the factory to stop it from breaking down...only to adjust it to my needs from a seating and mirrors etc point of view.
I lose my connection around once every seven days so I will see how it goes with the initial advise of turning off DNS relay and reserved addresses. I did that yesterday and rebooted. Again, I'm not sure why reserved addresses would stop the router from staying up?
I will also check the other items on your list and post back with the remainder of information.
Thank you for your quick response.
