Wireless connection of two wired networks
« on: February 17, 2012, 02:36:19 AM »

Hi,

I have two separate wired networks. Network 1 has a wireless router (an adsl modem). Router of the Network 2 is not wireless. Can I replace router of network 2 with DIR-600 to make a wireless connection between these two network segments ?

Thanks

I recommend getting a DLink model DAP device for this. DAP-1525

There no need for 2 routers on the same line.

Thanks for answer,

But my question was not about selecting a model. It was about abilities of DIR-600.

Best Regards

The DIR-600 does not have the ability to bridge or relay wirelessly. These Routers are designed to be the main host router and provide wireless connections as a stand alone AP for wireless devices.

Hello,

Just for information, IF you don't get pimple configuring a normal DIR-600 router  ;) :

You may want to convert your DIR-600 router in a Wi-Fi Repeater-Bridge, which will allow you to connect both networks together ; BUT in the same range of IP addresses...

For this, have a look at DD-WRT Web site to get their special firmware for the DIR-600.
I tried it already, it works well on my second DIR-600 router. :D

A good advice:  don't use Internet Explorer but FireFox with (defaults settings out of the box) to avoid problems in case you want to come back to original firmware from D-Link.

Hope this will help.

Regards,
HP

P.S.
Do NOT rush AND Read Carefully the dedicated pages for DIR-600 from DD-WRT before to change the firmware.
It is not complicated to do if you know what you are doing. So, always use your brain first.  ;)
