Port Forwarding problem - urgent help needed
« on: February 23, 2012, 12:34:53 AM »

Hi - I'm having problems port forwarding and don't know what I'm doing wrong. I'm working on a school project on a tight schedule that handles payments - and the payment gateway (Moneris) needs a public URL to post back to while payments are verified. So in order to temporarily have my project running from Visual Studio externally, here's what I did:

-Had the VS project run on IIS Express
-Bound the alternative url to it - http://192.168.0.187:8020/
-Added port 8020 to my firewall exceptions. I can now access the page from any computer in the WAN with this URL
-Went to the Port Forward settings for the router and added an entry with the IP 192.168.0.187, the TCP and UDP ports 8020.

I was under the assumption that now, anything directed to [MY IP]:8020 would be then directed internally to 192.168.0.187:8020 - which DOES work internally. But instead, it just loads forever or craps out.

I've used an online tool and have determined that port 8020 IS open. But it simply won't forward. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on routers web page under status.

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?
If this modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems.
To tell if the modem is bridged or not, look at the routers web page, Status/Device Info/Wan Section, if there is a 192.168.0.# address in the WAN IP address field, then the modem is not bridged.

Some things to try:
Turn off ALL QoS or Disable Traffic Shaping (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options. Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall.
Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking.
