No it should connect to the N mode if the range and signal are good. If the range and signal on the LT drop then it's possible that the LT will pick the G mode.

Ok..the router will be in the same room as my N Laptop. The G laptop is in another room. So i set it to G & N?  And for sure the N laptop will use the faster N? I thought i heard somewhere if there is a G laptop on the network...the whole wireless will drop to G instead of N. I get my router in Monday. Im trying to know everything i need to know before then. Thanks alot Furry.

Ya use Mixed G and N mode on the router.
Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/Auto TPIK and AES.

Damn...this is what D Link just emailed me few minutes ago:

Dear Rodney,

We would like to inform you that if you have one wireless G standard adapter and one wireless N standard adapter and both are connecting wirelessly to the router at the same time, the wireless connection speed will drop down to the G standard speed on both the adapters.

If the router is set to N standard only, then both the adapters will connect at G standard speed as the the N standard is backward compatible to G. If the router is set to the G + N standard, then also both the adapters will connect at G standard speed.

Thank you for networking with D-Link

This would really be fu**** up if this is true. Would be a super bogus router if there is not a way to use my Brand New 2012 laptop that has wireless N...in the N feature. Really really bogus. My new laptop will be in the same room as the router also.

Once more...do you guys know if this is true for sure? I've heard many different answers. If i set the 655 to G & N...and my laptop in my room with the router is wireless N..but my nephews laptop in the next room is G....will it actually make it drop to G only on both laptops? Thats really really bogus. It should split between the 2...Hence G & N mode. This is what D Link emailed me:

I know i can just try an test it out...i just dont wanna mess with it right now...everything is going good.

Ya know you could just use the WBR as your main G mode AP for people to connect too for those G mode devices and then set the 655 up as a Single mode N for only those devices that support N mode.

I believe the behavior is correct for this router.

Yea.....thats how i have it now. Same hook up you showed me yesterday. All is good. WBR is droppin wireless on my nephews G laptop tho. But it was doin that before i even got the 655 because of me updating the firmware to 1.05. Never dropped when it was on 1.04. Gotta keep unplugging it for him every once in a while.

Can you fall back to 1.04 on the WBR?

I probably can. An now i think ill try it since i took my videophone off that router and added it to thr 655. Didnt wanna add all the port forwarding stuff again. My xbox is still on the WBR plugged in. I MIGHT have to add those prts. Not sure. Gonna wait and see how it goes.

Review the gaming and QoS sticky for XBL. Good info. I just updated it last week.

My PS3 is connected to the 655 already wireless. My xbox...i dont really play online with that box. Just want it to stay online. So its not too big of a deal to switch routers. Everything is perfect. Cept hoping my nephews laptop dont drop so much. We will see. Thanks for that info.
