Hi I have just purchased a dap 1525to use as a booster. My router is a Dir 655. I was getting a 2-3 bar fair to poor signal with the Dir 655 by itself. I have set up the 1525 in access point mode by using the one touch configuration. I first set it up in 5gh mode, but had no better signal. I then switched to 2.4 but still no better signal. I am going through two walls and an open air space of 35'. How do I tell if the 1525 is boosting the signal? I can log in to the 1525, and it has all the network info. Also when i disable my wireless signal from the Dir 655, I lose wireless access.

What wireless modes are you using on the Host router and DAP? Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
Try single mode G or mixed G and N?
Try single mode G or mixed G and N on 2.4Ghz on the Host router  and single mode N on 5Ghz on DAP if your using it as an AP?
What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only or Auto.
What wireless devices do you have connected?
Any other WiFi routers in the area? Use InSSIDer to find out.
Turn off Short GI and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing. 3rd party firewalls are not generally needed when using routers as they are effective on blocking malicious inbound traffic.
Turn off all devices accept for one wired PC while testing.

Check cable between Modem and Router, swap out to be sure. Cat6 is recommended.

It appears you are trying to use the DAP as a WiFi Booster which this DAP actually does not do in that sense.   You have it set in AP mode which means you will need to have it physically connected to your DIR 655.  Without connecting it, the DAP does not know what to do, hence you see no improvement in signal strength and when you shut down the DIR 655, you lose all signal.

The other mode of the DAP is Wireless Bridge mode.  This will feed off your current wireless but it requires a device to be connected to it such as a BluRay player,etc to allow that device to connect wirelessly to your DIR 655.  It will not work as a Booster for just the signal. 

The name is confusing as you would think it would "Boost" your signal but in actuality, it creates a 2nd network per say that you can name the same as your current wifi network (same SSID) which then "boosts" your signal.
